Your favorite chef?

Heston Blumenthal is a genius I also like watching Gordon Ramsey in kitchen nightmares

Just for viewing pleasure, I like Jamie Oliver - he makes cooking look easy and fun - and Trish Deseine (she does the show called Trish's 's Paris Kitchen) - nice looking at the outside scenes of Paris and Provence.

There is just something about Nigella that irritates the **** out of me. Maybe it is the way she flirts with the camera, maybe the way she tastes the food and then uses the same utensil again whilst cooking …

I quite like Jamie Oliver, but my ultimate favourite is Curtis Stone (Take home chef) – his food looks divine.

Chefs lose all credibility with me the moment their TV careers become more important than their food. Ramsay is a good example.

Reuben Riffel is my favourite chef. Best of all it is actually possible for me to eat his food.

Gary Rhodes irritates my because he practically ejaculates if he even puts a bay leave on a meat dish.

His over-cheffiness makes any following of his cookery impossible.

And cut that spikey hair, damnit!!!

Heston Blumenthal I find the most informative of the celebrity type chefs.

My favourites would then be:

Ferran Adria
Thomas Keller
Dale Roberts (to add some South African flavour)
How has Wolfgang Puck not made a lifetime achievement mention?
And Joel Robuchon...

Rick Stein for me. His the kind of chef I wish I could be. It's about the ingredients fresh local produce cooked simply. No complicated instructions and ponsie posing of food. I have watched his Mediterranean series and the local food champions, brilliant. I have tried several of his dishes and it came out perfectly EVERY TIME.

Nigella is a tw@t who uses prepackaged sauces and crap (right for the American market they love her over there). Gary Rhodes is a overated poser. The last series I watched of him Pissed off me endlessly . So pretentious. Gordon is okay to watch for entertainment value but I would not spend a nickle to taste his food.

Jamie (old Jamie that is) is and was brilliant. His outlook on cooking the simplicity of the treatment of the ingredients. i still cook that way and he enlighten me about buying locally.

That's why he gets my vote. His approach is scientific and he explains the why's and how's of preparing/cooking food. I also love slow cooking and he takes that to an entirely different level :D

Most people watch cooking shows to be entertained and hopefully educated in the process. However, if it gets to scientific, it loses its appeal to most viewers. I am sure his food tastes good, but this is TV, so we are not going to taste it ...

Interesting i didn't notice any SA cheffies in there (OK other than that Justin Bonello dude)

How bout Luc Dale-Roberts down at La Colombe in Cape Town. (recently rated 12th in the world) and you'd have to go a long way to beat the spread from Carly Goncalves at 9th avenue Bistro in Durbs

I tried Gordon Ramsey's maze earlier on this year and was pretty disappointed ... maybe it was a bad night, but at those prices bad nights shouldn't exist

I dont know alot
I like Jamie, hes the most passionate, Gordans good and that Indian chick is pretty... looks a bit snobby but shes pretty good.

Maze is just another franchise and I doubt Gordon Ramsay actually has anything to do with it anymore. Maze has gotten a few bad reviews.

A quick aside ...

How many people here have actually tasted the food of your favourite chef?

Tasted what they cooked or what I cooked following their recipes?

I have only tasted from recipes that I followed.
