Because it's unlikely you are getting a better price and unlikely you 'll get better service.
So why not stick with people who have credibility.
Only reason I can imagine you would jump for an ISP you've never heard of is because your friend or cousin or something is running the show.
It needs a "hook".
Also why is OP asking the question ? Is it market research to start his own ISP.

Crystal web is far from small or little known.
But yes they certainly were in the same boat two years ago.
I would like OP to flesh out the question and the motivation more.
To me small is the likes of @tlantic or Kingsley. The kind that don't always answer the phone.

My dealings with wireless options have always been small ones for a lack of other options and was always atrocious but what could you do if there is no other option.

Everyone was "small" at some stage... Some prefer to STAY small actually to provide better service and quality.
If the smaller ones provide a good service, why not support them?
The size of the ISP shouldn't be a deciding factor IMHO, but rather the choices should be made on the level of service, and if it's important to you, support.

If that is the case then sure. It's exactly why I asked "why?" Because I want to know what the OP is really asking.
There needs to be a hook.
The reason is i am researching for a company I work for as they have expressed that we need to lower costs.
I have found a few places that are offering on par costing to the bigger ISP's like Web Africa and AfriHost.
I don't really want to support the bigger ISP's as they have the monopoly in this country and you just become an account number to them.
Support the little man as they are trying to put there kids through school.
