Your views on optional maintenance plan in new automatic car

Golf v gti

I prefer to have a MP and not need it than having to keep a budget for unforseen repairs.

So basically a dealer took you (and your MP provider) for a ride and claimed items that were supposed to be repaired under warranty.

So your MP claims totalled R4,500 (forget what the dealer told you about the first 3, they're talking crap). How much did this plan cost you?

Well then your post was not really relevant to this thread. OP is asking about whether it's worth taking out an optional MP, if his car comes with a SP...

The only thing that comes standard on a VW Golf is a Service Plan up to 90000kms/5 years.

The MP's are all optional extra's that start at R13k.

Ok ,please delete my posts then.

Anyway as I said - I prefer to have a MP and not need it than having to keep a budget for unforseen repairs.

Guess VW made a mistake with mine then .

BTW . can you tell me what I had for breakfast ....I forgot

Looking at getting a Kia Rio 1.4 TEC Automatic

It comes with 5 year / 100000km warranty and 4 year / 60000km Service Plan.

Question is if I should get the optional Maintenance plan for a new car?
I am quoted R200 extra a month on a 5 year / up to 75 000km (on odometer) Maintenance Plan.

THe items included in MP and not in SP are :
clutch (not available in automatic)
exhaust
globes / fuses
brake pads
brake disks
shock absorbers
v belts
wiper blades
engine
gearbox
differential
turbo assembly
ignition
cooling system
wheel bearings

p/s- bear in mind this will be a new car, and it will be an automatic gear, so no clutch etc.

Should I get it for peace of mind? What was your experience in this?

I took it to make sure I don't have to have spare cash laying around when it comes to services. I terribad at saving so maintenance plan was a no brainer.

Can't be arsed to go digging for the details - 'specially on something not terribly relevant to the thread - but if memory serves the Golf/Jetta Vs did indeed have 5yr/60,000km maintenance plans. Vee-Wobble-You's chopped and changed a fair bit on their plans over the years.

Trust me they didn't make a mistake.

You paid for that MP.... it was just "included" in the price of the vehicle, but its still an optional extra.

Always been at most a Service Plan and never a Maint Plan...
