YouTube.co.za launched

your all doing it wrong

The site, www.youtube.co.za, like the article says is hosted internationally, so there is no point in pinging that.

however, if you watch a video the content streams from one of the google caching servers.

from two video I tested, I saw the traffic coming for these ip addresses, both of which are local.:
155.232.240.19
155.232.240.20

Incidentally the one video was using 9megabytes/minute on 360p

@Webafrica please add the google caching servers to the Freezone!!!!

I just added this to my C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts file seems to be working well ;)

As wonderful as this is , youtube is just not a viable option on 384k right now . I am with mweb , and it does a while to watch anything . Buffers for some time . Must be great news for 512k 1 meg and higher . So congrats :)

na, you'll probably get most of it off one of the Google Cache servers (GGC), of which we have 3 (known) in SA.

The Swedish national broadcaster tried that stunt in Sweden but failed.... Wouldn't be so optimistic here ;)

Only getting different response from mail.google.com

I was expecting the server to resolve locally for youtube.co.za, pity its going to a overseas server, and the whole point of the article is to make it more available and faster etc etc etc....

Try flushing dns cache.

I was uploading a video as the article was published, and just noticed now that the 'Tube' part of the logo contains the SA flag.

Cool.
 
Shame they throttle and shape video, can't get a video to play without stop/starting even on a 4mb ADSL.

Still the usual Youtube cr*p of some videos loading fast, some none at all. Continually have to refresh the page so that i don't have to wait for buffer
