YouTube Video's not caching

Hi all

I have tried IE and FireFox now, but after a YouTube video has loaded and I reopen the page with the link of the video, I need to load it from the begininng again...

Why is this?

Isn't the song already on my PC?

Youtube caches perfectly for me....

They don't want you to have the video on your PC, otherwise it would be too easy to keep the videos and never use their site to view them again (not that it already isn't).

You can find the video in your cahe while the YouTube page is still open, then save it to your PC permanently.

EDIT: I haven't used Youtube for a while but I also remember them caching in the same browser session. If you close your browser do you lose the cached copy?

Hard to recall to be honest.... i have at times tho, changed webpage ( without closing tab ) and then, when going back to the same clip, its still cached. I do know however that there were times that it was not cached. Maybe this was when i closed IE all together.

there's a firefox addon that allows you to capture videos from youtube etc.

just cant remember the name, but a quick search through firefox extensions will work.

you can also look in your temp internet storage folder, sort by size and find the video - it may not be marked as a standard video file, but the large file sizes give them away.

i think flashgot also helps capture flash movies - but i don't use it much.

I think DownThemAll also has the ability to save YouTube videos. Or have a look here if you want to save it

BUT, when you follow other links to the same movie, you will notice that the actual URL changes. This means that your cache will not recognise the link as already retrieved. Watch the URL, every time you click on a link to the movie, the part after the ? changes to a different number.

It's really annoying, and it is not helping the internet as a whole.

Use unplug, same to disk, use mplayer to from mplayer to play it

I prefet using UNPLUG addon for Firefox to download YouTube videos anyway as I wanna keep most.

I've always used the 'DownloadHelper' addon for Firefox. Very simple and works well for downloading YouTube movies.
