you've been "noded"

Ok I dont know the area but judging by the infomation you give, if you were on a frequency of 2518000 from Sunnyside, that means you are South East from the Tower.
It is quite possible that Sunnyside was one of the towers that was still on the extended range and was recently switched to 5.7k so thats probably the reason you ran out of signal as I'm sure if you measured correctly you will probably find you are further than 5 ks and that is why you are now connecting to the tower you were supposed to in the first place.

Regarding La Montagne (22) exactly where it is I dont have a clue and the best I can do is give you its co-ordinates:

28.18.51 East and 25.44.47 South

Groenie,

most probably you are within reach of MenloPark as well as Kilnerpark.

They could be closer to you.

The hills might play funny tricks though [:p]

South Africa needs World Class Broadband at World Competitive Prices.

Thanks guys
As soon as I get the antenna from Poynting I'll climb on the roof. Unfortunately there is a 15 day wait for the antennas.
I should be able to see Menlo Park.

They no doubt will be in time to come.
Right now there are far more pressing matters [:)]

Anyone know of a site where one can enter these values and get an approximate (or accurate) address ie. streetnames? like www.terraserver.com or something similar

Would like to hear if/when you have any success, groenie. We're also in Persequor Park. Previously it worked fine for us, now it no longer works ... we keep getting a seemingly good strength on tower 36, but no luck connecting.

Use Sentech's Broadband Zone Locator, and keep an eye on the coords in the status bar as you move the mouse. I used this method to get the GPS coords of my house, which I was looking for for a long time now [:D]

it doesnt correlate since using the numbers above, the sunnyside tower is more like in the middle of pretoria and much futher from me and I can connect. I will check again though..

Okay here are the conversions for the BBZL:

Montagne:
28.18.51 E | 25.44.47 S
28.3141666 E | 25.7463888 S

Kilner:
28.15.44 E | 25.42.59 S
28.26222222 E | 25.7163888 S

Menlo:
28.16.09 E | 25.46.15 S
28.2691666 E | 25.7708333 S

Hope this helps!

ProAsm, greedyflyza, thanks for the tower locations. Will spend some quality roof time this weekend.

Found a nice calculator to calculate distance between GPS co-ordinates: http://grapevine.abe.msstate.edu/~fto/calculator/converte.html

Got the following specs:
Persequor Park -> Montagne = 4.04 km
Persequor Park-> Menlo Park = 2.764 km
Persequor Park-> Kilner Park = 3.521 km
Persequor Park-> Sunnyside = 7.0238 km

How is it that we only receiving a signal from Sunnyside? Our modem has never picked up the other towers. I pretty sure the Sunnyside signal is being reflected as I said earlier.

What does the base station footprint look like?

Is it possible to get a list of the co-ords for the towers in jhb ?

I have all the co-ords for all the sites but its a shlep to type them out [:)]
groenie, regarding your query.
Not all Towers are omni directional, for instance:
Sunnyside is omni.
Kilner does not have coverage to its North.
Menlo does not have coverage to its North.
Montagne is omni.

btw, nice calculator you found there [;)]

Dean i think if he had them in electronic format he wouldn't have hesitated putting them on here...

read : "but its a shlep to type them out"
