you've been "noded"

As I have said before, having huge disconnection problems with 36. Right now I am on 0deg / 2506MHz which should face exactly in my direction. For some reason I keep on getting disconnected and it tries to reconnect on 2518 / 120deg. It seems to hop between the two. I should be directly north of the tower so theres no chance of me being between the coverage areas or a minimal chance.

Right now my signal is 22% RSCP -83 ISCP -91 (when I connected) and I'm sitting around waiting for it to disconnect. I'm 3.2km from the tower. I have connected for well over 24 hours before so this is a new thing.

Is it possible that there is something wrong with the tower? Rebooting/unrooting USB/restarting modem all dont change anything.
If possible can someone (ProAsm etc) inform the Sentech folks of the problem. I have logged a ticket / escalated support problem with 2nd level support but I dont know if they will do anything. Its still disconnecting..

Answering previous post...

Once had the same problem. I could only reformat and reinstall. A thing i found really works when having a problem with OUR WONDERFULL MICROSOFT is use their repair on the cd or just reinstall.

That is the bill gates solution. Restart or Reinstall. Don't think this will really help but i had the sme problem and this is the only solution i can remember!

thanks koos, you will understand if i wait a bit before attempting a reinstall. thats toooooo depressing, maybe someone will comeup with a quick and easy solution.

i await....

kbentz, I had EXACTLY the same problem. The freezing gets very annoying.. To fix it (it seems) I had to recast/reghost to an earlier stage.

Try using msconfig (from start->run) and stopping all funny apps at startup. Also check the services tab and check "Hide All microsoft services" and take out anything strange.

Also get AdAware Professional. I have a torrent file for it. mail me for details. AAW pro has a process explorer that shows you what Ctrl-Alt-Del / taskman doesnt. Theres a probly something running that slipped through your firewall.

Do a search on google for Spybot search and destroy as well. Thats pretty good.

Have a look at this site: http://www.kellys-corner-xp.com especially the services section. You can speed things up greatly by customising your services.

Hope this helps!

Was just disconnected again. Immediately the Sentech dialer wants to connect or reports a signal at 2518000. It also throws out two error messages (cant quote since I had to reboot to be able to connect again).

Basically the first error is a "loss of coverage, please improve modem signal" error. Strange, considering I have 22% signal.

Secondly, I get a "network not available - please try again later" type of error. I can however connect after rebooting etc (only to disconnect later) so the network IS available. Somethings wonky somewhere..

Also getting "Remote computer did not respond" but thats normal.

My firmware is 4.2.1.1

It seems to successfully connect at 2506000 which makes sense since I am North of the tower.

I hope this doesnt go on for very long because if I stay connected then I am one *really* satisfied customer. Right now though this little problem is getting a little irritating..

I'm using TheRodents debugging advice in the dialler. So I'm not sure if the errors are normal or if they would appear otherwise.

The 2518000 could be a signal seeking/negotiation feedback output. So maybe that I have wrong.

This problem of not connecting to the correct Tower is well known to us and we are working on it but due to the large grid in Gauteng it has to be tackled with great care and unfortunately takes time but we will get there.
For the time being use whatever means (large metal plate) to shield your modem from picking up distant Towers.

I dont think I am connecting to a distant tower. I will however monitor it and report back if so. I dont understand why it would drop a good connection from one tower(or sector) and reconnect again.

So far today it seems better - maybe its fixed. Time will tell.

ProAsm, PLEEEEEEEUUUUUZ. Ask them fellows at Sentech to start numbering the towers UNIQUELY, and documenting them. It will really help everyone... From contractors, to users in achieving a better signal, or at least being able to provide informative information to Sentech's support staff.

Picture this -> I'm kneeling on my balcony. In the left hand I hold a large metal tea tray out through the railing to which is stuck a Fastcomm patch antenna. My nose is right up against the monitor and I'm operating the mouse and pecking at the keyboard with my right hand.

Well it worked ! The tea tray blocked the signal from tower 36 (8km away) and allowed me to attach to tower 50 (3.1 km away). I managed a Google search before the pain got too much.

So I suppose I am in the market for a directional antenna ...

further to this posted earlier....

aaaaargh... this is not mywireless related... but got no one else to ask at 11pm at night.

my explorer tonight is suddenly just pausing every now and then for about 7 or 8 seconds (just freezes) and then carries on...??? not running any apps in backg, no data transferring, rebooted, ran stingers and trojan checks... nutting?

any ideas?

well, its fixed, dowloaded search and destroy... and it destroyed all the nastys and now my IE is solid again.

thanks again to a great forum!!!!

Thats why we are all here [:D]

Good to know that it actually worked. Now put up a firewall dammit!

Just kidding.. but seriously thats probably how it got on your PC (keep in mind, 24-7 connections are prone to attacks)

been running sygate from the beginning... ?????
