Bought one of these modems today (see link ) and I am surprised at the heat it generates? Very hot to the touch, I mean very' hot. I placed a fan blowing direct onto the modem and it would cool down a lot, move the fan to miss the modem and very quickly it's hot again. Is that normal? This was in Tswane weather today, not to hot thought.

Yes same here with my 2nd Cell C stick (first one stopped working, also overheated), I also had the same issue with a previous Vodacom 3G modem which was also from the ZTE stable. No matter how good the reception is.
Going back to Cell C in Fourways to see what they suggest.

HI

Some time the issue can be that the USB port in no supplying enough power.
Try using a Y-cable, that help a lot of the time.
But modem do tend to get hot.

Hi AM

I have 3 USB ports on my Lenovo T61 and have also used a USB cable to see if that would help with no success. It heats up and looses connection. Very frustrating...

If you use standard USB cable, then it is asking for trouble. Cell_C advised Y-cable. Possibly no extension cable at all. If have to, get quality Y-cable as above, ot self-powered USB 2.0 hub.
