The police have completed their investigations into the allegations that a Gauteng racehorse owner spilled his drink on President Jacob, the Durban Magistrate's Court hears.

"The investigations are complete and the state is ready to proceed with the trial," said state prosecutor, Thami Ntuli.

The state alleges that Daryl Peense, 31, of Alberton, Johannesburg, spilled his drink on Zuma during the Durban July.

Peense, who faces an assault charge, briefly appeared in the Durban Magistrate's Court on Friday, accompanied by a male.

The case was postponed to October 22 to give Peense's lawyer time to interview two witnesses. Ntuli said the state had four witnesses.

The trial date would be set during the next court appearance, he said.

Spilling your drink on the king is a serious crime, happy to see my tax money is well spend.

This is actually a great thing, since it is an excellent benchmark of the court system in this country. If this gets anything more than a big "ROFL" by the judge, we know there's no hope.

No mention if it was an accident or intentional. Can't judge this without that important detail...

What if it was like whats his face doing it on TV to the huisgenoot reporter. Urgh dont remind me of old stievies name.
What the penalty for spilling drinks?
Depends on the type of drink, bols or scotch ?

And with this, SA is officially a banana republic.

Kinda like America where they sue McDonalds for getting fat :D

You get silly litigation the world over. If I was you instead of getting hysterical and screaming ZIM 2.0, wait to see how the court handles this?

Damn - I could have an entire bar arrested on a Friday night....

Does it matter? Since when is spilling a drink considered assault?

Spilling and throwing are two very different things. Surely you can tell the difference between spilling a drink on zuma and chucking it at him?

What happened to that guy who chucked his boots at bush?

He went to jail.

If it was deliberate, then yes, the guy should be locked up for a brief stint to educate him a bit... I might not be Zuma's biggest fan :p but he is still the president of the country.

um, Alberton is not in Johannesburg. It is part of Ekurhuleni.

Since when can anyone actually get close enough to our president to accidentally spill on him? I think hat guy must have a very good throwing arm.

Lesson number 2

Never, while attending the Durban July race meeting at Greville - even under pain of death - spill your drink on the President as he is walking passed you.

This lecture - as soon as he is prepared to comment - will be delivered by Daryl Peense who spent the night in jail and is now facing a charge of assault for doing exactly that.

According to Roy Moodley, owner of the winning horse Bold Silvano, he saw the incident and he is sure that there was no malice intended. Moreover that nobody was injured and nothing solid like a glass was thrown.

In fact he said that he doesn't think that Zuma was even aware at first that someone had spilt a drink on him.
According to a source of the Natal Witness the police believe that the drink was spilt as the President was walking passed but aren't sure if it was intentional.

Brig. Phindile Radebe, the police spokesman confirmed that a man was brought into Berea Police Station and charged with assault. He is out on R500 police bail.

Oh, ok I was wondering about the details here too since hurling a drink at the pres. is something different but if Roy Moodley's story is the truth then I hope Zuma gets a fatal tumor in the top deck of his double decker head. WTF?! And if this is the case, why doesn't one of his bodyguards take the heat for it? Surely if drops from a drink made their way to Zuma then some bodyguard is sure as hell not commited to stopping a bullet from making its way to him?

Really, if this was an accident and fat d00s wants him thrown in jail then it just goes to show the character of the man, wouldn't you say? So much for being for the people, hey zoom-zoom? If it's true, Zuma, then fsck you!
