Vodacom Limitless price mistake

Vodacom Red

An online advertisement for Vodacom’s Red “Limitless” price plans which contained the incorrect pricing of R999 per month resulted in a successful Advertising Standard Authority of South Africa (ASA) complaint.

Vodacom’s advertisement claimed that users can get unlimited minutes and text on its limitless Red price plan from R999 per month.

Nitesh Maharaj lodged a complaint with the ASA, saying that the advertising was misleading as one can only receive “Limitless” minutes at R1,999 per month.

Vodacom, through its advertising agency, said that the web advert erroneously communicated “From R999 pm Limitless minutes & SMS”.

Vodacom committed to correct its website to show that limitless minutes and SMS is only available on the Red VIP package priced at R1,999 per month.

The ASA accepted Vodacom’s commitment without ruling on the matter. However, it noted that at the time of finalising this ruling, the amendments had not yet occurred.
