BlackBerry 10 SA launch window
Smartphones running the new BlackBerry 10 OS will not be available in South Africa immediately after the launch event scheduled for 30 January 2013, industry sources have told MyBroadband.
Operators will likely receive stock of BlackBerry 10 devices by the middle of February 2013, with the phones set to become available towards the end of the month.
Similar rumours have emerged in Canada, where BlackBerry-maker Research in Motion (RIM) is based. CrackBerry reported that the rumours there are that BB10 devices will be available from Telus and Bell in Canada on 5 February 2013.
There is little confirmed information about the upcoming BlackBerry 10 smartphones, though there have been purported leaks of images of two devices: one with a QWERTY keyboard and with only a touch screen.
MTN and Vodacom have both said that further information will only be revealed closer to launch, while Cell C previously announced that it would offer BB10 devices “early in 2013 following the global launch announcement”.
8ta did not respond to requests for information by the time of publication.
