OS X El Capitan launch
OS X El Capitan, the latest major release of Apple’s desktop operating system, will be available on 30 September as a free update.
El Capitan was first announced in June 2015 during Apple’s Worldwide Developer Conference, with the company showing off enhanced searching with Spotlight, a set of gestures for Apple Mail and Safari, new window management features for full-screen applications, and split-view full screen.
Apple said El Capitan would also feature performance improvements to make everyday activities faster and more responsive.
El Capitan features a new Notes app that lets you drag and drop photos, PDFs, videos, and other files into a note and add content directly from other apps using the Share menu.
You can create checklists, and the new Attachments Browser organises your attachments in one view.
Notes can be backed up with iCloud and synchronised to other Apple devices, where they can be edited.
El Capitan supports all Macs introduced from 2009 onward, and certain models from 2007 and 2008.
