Anyone using apt-cacher for updating multiple machines on their home network? Looks like a very useful bit of software.

Sorry to wake up this old thread, but I've finally set up apt-cacher-ng on my home network and it really does make updating *much* quicker across multiple machines.

Really simple to set up as well.

i prefer apt-mirror ... :D
apt-mirror can only work if you can plug your drive directly into a local mirror (such as one of the varsities) fairly regularly. Otherwise you'll be wasting that uncapped bandwidth ;)

good to hear the positivity on cacher. looking at implementing at work soon.
[also seeing the +'s on committing to a single and stop distro hopping. for the now, anyhow.] but, there's so much choice !

There's just been an update to chrome, and I see google didn't put their repository in sources.list, but rather in /etc/apt/sources.list.d/google-chrome.list

I'm currently installing Linux on my sisters PC, since XP has bombed out and refuses to work.

I've setup apt-cacher, waiting for her PC to finish installing and then it's all systems go!
