New Local Open Torrent Site!

Awesome. I uploaded a torrent and will email some friends

A user from Canada joined and uploaded a torrent :/
Cue me explaining the reason local trackers are necessary (bloody telkom) , and how international users kinda defeat the purpose.

"New Local Open Torrent Site!" yet someone just mentioned someone from Canada partaking, doesn't sound very "local". International users could cause problems for people wanting to use local only bandwidth. I think you might want to either stop trying to push it as "local" or restrict it to South Africa.

Do you actually read more than the forst two words when you post?

I am sorry that I am going to be negative about this but I really feel that having a local torrent site where its not restricted to SA only and/or it does not have a invite only system is not going to work.

The reason is people are going to go on there and leech the hell into the uploaders and not upload or do their part! They will then get banned and they will open up a new account and start all over again...thoughts?

Yes you are indeed correct on this one. I guess time will tell if people wish to make use of the site or abuse it, just remember that its a service to all those people who end up with gigs upon gigs of unused local cap, where they could of actually put it to some use.
Besides the site doesn't exactly ask for much it just asks for you to keep a ratio of at least 0.5 at all times and with most people getting at least 10gigs of local cap a month I hardly see that as asking alot. :wtf:

Yeah. This site fills a gap in the local torrent scene. I doubt there will be many hit-and-runs and here's why: all the content is local and this site primarily caters to people who can't get an invite to other torrent sites. Also, as NomNom pointed out, local bandwidth is in abundance. As a result of the nature of the site downloads will be slower than international alternatives. Therefore if someone only has international, he will rather hit-and-run on a much faster site. However if the person has local, logic dictates he use as much of it as possible. This is potentially his only chance to get rid of it so why not use some uploading? Except in the rare case of someone trying to hit-and-run 10/30GBs of content there is no reason not to upload.

Time will tell how successful it is though:)

"Therefore if someone only has international, he will rather hit-and-run on a much faster site." - not true at all, people who hit n run are not goverened by the internet package they purchase, its just a highlight of their personality, me me me, got nothing to do with international or local
