More international bandwidth for South Africa

Certainly up to WACS, everything is on track. I wouldn't hold my breath for ACE and Main One, though.

If ACE gets built all the way to South Africa, it will be on the basis of aid funding from various US humanitarian agencies, funneled through a shady company called Baharicom, since France Telecom is definitely not going to fund this segment.

Main One is also still certainly looking for funding to get to South Africa, and is not confirmed. Access to this funding will depend largely on whether SEACOM makes enough money to secure additional loans.
 
interesting read but what good will it do us, a country with about 11% of the population having access to BB services?
 
Oh yes more bandwidth but once you reach a cap on an uncapped account you will be stopped. In other words what is the point?
 
And just how much is lit / switched on per cable already? Even if Seacom runs at full capacity, it won't impact our Capitalist & Dictatorship Attitude of Telkom
 
Now all we need is an isp who is willing to build their own local loop to compete with telkom' local loop. Oh wait... that would cost them money.

It would be cheaper to demand telkom hand over their network for free.

It would be cheaper still to just blame Telkom, reap the profits, and do nothing;)
 
The exitement of a new cable landing has pretty much been extinguised by SEACOMS's miserable performance and misery bandwidth allocation.
 
It's all awesome and brilliant, but whats the use, telkom will not drop prices....
All that bandwidth is going to be wasted and not used :(

Who says LLU is for free? It certainly is not in the UK. BT leases out copper lines to ISP's at a pre-determined, regulated price. This allows them enough money to do upkeep and make some profit on it.
 
well lets hope with all this extra capasity that mweb will stop their fulishness at telling people they have to move packages or cancel the service
 
Where's Juliaaass when you need him? We need to nationalise the local loop so that the peopul do not get raped by with the white racists and devils just to use Fetchbook or Tweetar, or make calls to udder ****ries.
