Afrihost uncapped ADSL is uncapped, says Advertising Authority

I think these people need to get a new term for uncapped, as some believe one thing and other people something else. This would eliminate alot of issues

Then what is very misleading is that they call their packages Uncapped 4MBps, when in reality you'll get a 4MB speed until you reach this unknown "threshold", apparently between 10 and 20GB of usage. Once that is achieved you've got yourself a 50Kb speed, and no more.

I think these "Authorities" should start being fair and do the right thing. I bet 90% of them have double digit IQ's and that does not help us at all. Let them use Afrihost for a month and then comment. %$^$%king retards who don't even know what they are talking about.

It also does't help that we all know corruption is ripe everywhere in SA where there is anything with Authority...

I was for a month with Afrihost uncappped, All went well until i reached 35Gig . then the account became useless. Could not even sync mail, So much for uncapped. bunch of fnn liars
I took my money elsewhere

So uncapped means not being disconnected as per the ASA = Ass wholes

So they can throttle to 1kbs and then still call it uncapped, just as long as you're not disconnecting users.

4Mbps Uncapped for R99 per month!

Please note after the first 1 Gigabyte your connection will be throttled to 1Kbps, you can bump up your speed up to 4Mbps again for R99. Please note, the speed bump will only last for 1 Gigabyte.

A sign of things to come? :wtf::mad:

Did the ASA actually test the accounts once they have reached this threshold? They basically become unusable... amounting to the same thing as cutting them off.

Wrong finding IMO... Afrihost and all the other cheap uncapped providers are pulling the wool over everybody's eyes.

This is bad for consumers in SA as it establishes a new norm for a term that previously meant something else.

What should not be allowed is the fact that the ISP's throttle you down to below the suggested broadband limit, which 256 but they go lower than that, which is then no longer broadband? :erm:

Been having really bad speeds with Afrihost lately so won't even CONSIDER their "uncapped" offerings.

C'mon guys. Afrihost brought us R29 per GB, and then quickly responded to MWEB's cheap uncapped offerings. I am still thankful to them for igniting this broadband revolution, sticking to their guys, and trying to fix issues where they occur. Give them a break - they've got to implement a FUP and throttle/shape heavy users. It's the only way we can all enjoy the uncapped experience. Until we get more submarine cables (EASSY has arrived, but will still take a few months for its effects to filter down), and more fibre to the exchanges and in the ground, this is what we have to deal with, which is complete heaven compared to what we had less than 1 year ago.

If you must blame, flame and de-fame, it should be directed towards Telkom, ICASA, the DoC and our government. They are the biggest to blame for the mess we are currently in, and not the revolutionary, innovative ISP that is Afrihost.

Afrihost FTW!! Afrihost fanbois unite!

but i hope this hapens with MWEB now aswell that they go under the fire with the ASA cause of them cancelling accounts, becuase they asume your using a vpn to download your stuff from, and i hope that they loose MWEB SUCS

Which is why the same complainant should return now to the ASA and take them on in the second instance... that the product is advertised as "4 mbps uncapped" ... but doesn't really remain at the advertised speed. They should be forced to drop the advertised speeds.

Afrihost are trying, while WebAfrica refuses to joined the uncapped party, and Telkom are just complete failures. Why don't you direct your energies and foul language at Telkom instead. They are the biggest culprits.

Afrihost FTW!!

"Giving them a break" is what opens the door to Providers abusing their customers and taking advantage of them unfairly. Providers should never be "given a break" but should be held accountable to provide what they have advertised. That is what consumer action and a fair market is all about. You give them a break here and they will take advantage of you again in another area. It is the nature of the capitalist system to take advantage of loopholes.

+1 Throttling = predetermined cap

Pay a flat monthly rate and use the internet as much as you want – Pure Internet Joy

More like "“Pay a flat monthly rate and use the internet as much as you CAN – Pure Internet CONFUSION!”.

I'm tired of being mislead. We need to see more informed advertising: CAPPING + SHAPING + THROTTLING need to be explicitly stated!

NO MORE BULL$H!T PLEASE

In my opinion if you advertise the speed and the word uncapped next to it, then thats what you should get. ie. You purchase 4Mbps Uncapped, then what you should get is 4Mbps uncapped. If you purchase uncapped, then you should be provided with any speed as long as you never get capped. In simple english.... 4Mbps is the adjective part of uncapped.
