'Unlimited' South African hosting: R89 per month

This seems a lot cheaper than Hetzner :s I'm currently paying at least R4k a month for an international server and a local server with 50GB usage. If I had to take the Pro Plan with Hosting Unlimited it would cost me only R450 for the same 50GB of traffic. Might be a bit of a mission moving my 60 odd domains though :-/

Glad to see local hosting is becoming more affordable though.

Yah !! Maybe its time for move , I just upgraded to a higher package due to disk space. I can easily move international but I like the idea of supporting local which up until now has cost a pretty penny
 
It's still expensive compared to the international market! - I'm currently paying the equivalent to 30 ZAR for my unlimited hosting package, also with SSH, true unlimited diskspace, transfers, sub-domains, imap/pop accounts, etc etc etc

They seem to be hosting on top of Hetzner's network so its interesting that their services are that much cheaper.

I wonder whether this really is unlimited or is the a FUP? I know a number of websites that could probably bankrupt these guys.
 
Mmmmmm........nothing like moving 60 domains only for your host to fold in 6 months without telling you.
 
So let me understand this...

A ground breaking, amazingly awesome hosting company, who can offer unlimited local hosting for R89 p/m... yet they are hosting their website on a Hetzner dedicated server?
Funny how they also offer their mailboxes in SA and DE... just like hetzner.
Thirdly, why would you pay R450 for their pro package, when their R89 p/m package is unlimited everything?

Im sorry, but there is no way they could do this locally, I almost want to take out this R89 p/m package, and completely flatline my uncapped adsl uploading and downloading stuff from it to see what they do when you hit say 200GB in a month.

This reminds me of a company that started up about 4 years ago, who offered the exact same thing, except it eventually came out later that they were hosting off fixed ip, adsl uncapped accounts.
 
Local hosting = FAIL (every time)

Don't believe the hype - there is no better way to host your website than on a server overseas. I have my own server at The Planet and I resell hosting on it from under R35 per month, including mySQL, cPanel, Fantastico, etc. I buy bandwidth in bulk and share it across my pool of customers, none of whom are anywhere near the point of exhausting their allotment. If I ever need more bandwidth I can get it at around $2 per gig.

Why pay more for less?

Unlimited hosting MY A****, unless I am reading this incorrectly, Plan 2 which is supposed to be unlimited you get 4000MB as per below

Micro 300 MB for FREE Plan
Basic 4 000 MB for Plan 2


8.3 Over-usage is monitored and automatically billed as per Hosting Unlimited's price schedule for SA traffic over usage on the FREE Plan 25 per 50MB and on the business plan R20 per 100MB

Local hosting is for the weak with their nationet connection - real internet users don't have boundaries. I prefer host4africa.com

Local hosting is for users that care about their latency and a decent user experience. ;)
 
"Number of domains = 1" = FAIL

Why do local hosting companies always limit you to 1 domain per account? It's a common problem you see with all South African hosting companies.

All in all South African hosting companies have got a LOT to learn from overseas hosting companies. It's not just about the bandwidth, it's also about the mix of features that they sell with their packages. South African hosting companies tend to be far too stingy with the options that come with their packages. What use is 10GB of disk space when you are only allowed to have 1 MySQL database and 1 domain (for example).

It's going to take a lot more than this to lure weary South African webmasters back to using local hosting. We've been burnt too many times.

If the user cared about that they would not be plottering around on 384kbps shaped connections - next excuse please.
