MTN and Opera Mini joint initiative announced

Didn't voda do something similar? I'm pretty sure the vodafone/com branded miniopera sucked.

Existing Opera Mini users subscribing to MTN South Africa will be automatically updated to the co-branded version when they next run Opera Mini.

Thanks MTN! I really want that... </sarcasm>

Now I wonder what adverts MTN will inject into the browsers.

blackberry

Seems as if this has not been implemented on blackberry yet, redownloaded opera mini 5.1 and there is no indication of mtn branding.

So there is no benefit at all to the end user here? No free browsing/downloads from certain sites?

Just an eMpTN logo splattered all over my already tight for space screen?

Delightful.

No thanks. Who browses MTN's website anyway?

the same people who still use internet explorer and have msn as their home page.
these are the people who won't know how to customise their browsing experience on their mobile phone either.
this kind of sell-out by opera may be necessary to sustain their growth long term, but imo it will tarnish their reputation and will end up with opera being synonymous with "clunky browser that comes with the phone and has all the irritating ads".
hopefully i'm wrong - i like opera.

with the original opera mtn cannot block any website, the web is in your hands, with an mtn branded opera nothing is guaranteed

...yep yep yep. But what are we to gain from this? Voda tried this but flopped within a few days. I see enough Empty'N logos at work already.

I like Opera too. As is.

Same here, no need for another avenue of getting MTN pushed down the throat!
As it is I need to run Opera 4 alongside Opera 5 as some Opera 4 functionality simply does not work in Opera 5 - absolutely no need for further MTN intervention.

I run Opera mini 3 alongside 4. Havent tried 5 yet.
