Turn your 6950 into a 6970

holy cow...

this reminds me of the unlocking of the 6800LE pipelines... :)

can we source this card locally yet? I see frontosa dont have it on their price list yet....

i tried all shops is closed.

ph will have at r3100 on 3 jan when they open, but shipping then will be here only the 8th or so, trying to get it in cpt atm

LandmarkPC will be selling the Club3D HD 6950 for R3140.
Other than that, I've only seen the Gigabyte one going for like R4200+!

If you have family that's going over to the US, you can get the GTX 570 for much cheaper (~R2400), but then you might run into warranty issues though.

hell, I'm selling my 6870 so I can get a 6950, I won't even to that bios change thing, the performance between the cards is good enough difference,

btw I'm selling my Club 3D 6870 1GB for R2300 if anyone is interested :D

Was planning on waiting around for the GTX560 but looks like the 6950 might give better bang for buck now.

Reminds me of the good old days of the ATi 9500 :).

no asus gives 3 year warranty with best rma service in south africa, always worth it to go asus.

gigabyte is just expensive, because rectron ask that much.

Yes, it's basically a rip-off.

Often you'll find that Asus/Gigabyte will have better coolers or longer warranties, but paying that much extra is just plain silly.

I'd guess that all the HD 6950's available in SA would be reference designs, and that you'll only see non-reference designs in a few weeks to come.

So I guess the fact that I plan on voiding my warranty means I should just go and get the cheaper Club3D.

Yup :)

Just save the BIOS of the HD 6950 and reflash it if you ever have to RMA the card again :D

most cards is still reference designs at the moment

Sorry I should of been a bit clearer. Looking for one that comes directly from AMD, not a 2nd or 3rd party vendor. They usually lock the cores and the BIOS. However, this may not be an issue since the 69xx has dual BIOS.

AMD don't produce cards for the market, just the silicon and the reference design, which are then manufactured and marketed by the likes of Club 3D, MSI, et al.

I suppose the quality of parts used by each manufacturer would also affect the price difference between each brand?
