Hetzner boosts hosting traffic quotas

Lol, they lost so many clients to Mweb (myself included), that they trying to play catchup. Fail Hetzner.

I don't see anyone else trying hard so good on Hetzner for upping their game, bring on the competition :)

Not a complete fail though :wtf:

LOL. There is no way I will move from Hetzner to Mweb to save a few rand per month. Hetzner's service and quality of product are unmatched. Mwebs call centre barely know what a server is.

Hetzner FTW

Great its orsm, works for you, you keep that brand loyalty! huraah!

Me... personally I am more interested in making money than being part of a brand fan club. But different strokes.

+1

We have a dedicated box at MWEB to run our web apps and client hosting. The data quota/price played a big role in us choosing MWEB over Hetz.

Its too late now... I moved all my clients to other hosting companies a few years back.

We lease EQ4 Root servers from Hetzner Germany. The most comparable local Hetzner product (in terms of CPU,RAM and disk resources) is the TruServ Plus dedicated server, which includes 50GB monthly traffic for R1395.

Compare that to the Germany hosted EQ4 option of 49 EUR a month (R470) which includes 5000GB before they throttle your connection to 10MBit/s.

So while this may be a great step ahead for locally hosted options, it still does not come close to competing with international options.

As an aside, we're thinking of leasing another two EQ4's - does anyone know of better value for money for a dedicated server ?

Yeaup, its a bout time that they caught up, I also used to host with them, then they dropped support for JSP among a few other issues, they were dropped

Well done COMPETITION. Good drop Hetzner, they need to increase the data allowance on their volume plans too.

Been with hetzner (for a local site) for 10 years now. Very fast if you don't need huge volumes. A few miliseconds does provide a better experience (especially for our older "even dialup" clients.

I'm not sure if you could get better value than you already have, but try Hostgator. Been using them for a while and their support was great.

...reduce your exorbitant pricing instead.

The same situation as in the VoIP industry, etc. - trying to compete with other local suppliers, instead of reducing pricing so it is in-line with international benchmarks.

Instead, lets milk the consumer and should they complain, we can point out that we increased the capacity of our individual offerings.

Rofl ... and Mweb just announced today that from 1 May all of their dedicated server packages will have UNLIMITED bandwidth ! Starting at R683 p/m for a dedicated server with 4 Core Intel Xeon X3430, 4GB ram, 2 x 500GB disks and unlimited bandwidth. Not bad !

Hetzner really needs to come to the party with regards to increasing traffic quotas much more. But all Hetzner's products especially their Managed Dedicated Servers and Volume plan are still top quality products.
