Telkom set to boost 512 Kbps ADSL speeds

This is awesome news, I only hope they actually follow it through in the near future.

Its about time, but the truth is that we should be rather looking at something like:
384K=>1MB
1MB=> 4MB or 8MB
4MB=> 16MB

Especially if they are looking to compete with whats currently out with wireless.
But from what I hear, their lines and exchanges are so crap that they can hardly keep up with 4MB - never mind 10MB

the one problem with this is the guys like me on Mweb uncapped 512k. Line speed up to 1mb and the account speed stays 512k... rats. Anyone find out what Mweb will do if this happens?

I totally agree here. This is right on!! I have even considered buying a Vodacom dongle to use with my laptop because this ADSL is SNAIL-paced! I can also say that Hop 2 of my Traceroutes through the Aasvoelkop Telkom exchange (that's Northcliff) has not worked for about 3 months! From PC to router <0.1ms, hop 2 router to exchange * * * Request timed out, hop 3 to ISP <10ms .. and so on. Here, Telkom is totally useless.

We should even be talking about kpbs anymore... It should just be

384 -> 1 meg
512 -> 2 meg
4 -> 4 meg
NEW 8 meg+

I wonder if the WiMax customers are also going to be upgraded.

I hope the likes of MWeb carry this benefit over to their uncapped subscribers.
