Why Cell C is making its broadband network even faster

Amazing what a difference someone at the top can make to a company. Before Bruce Willis (Lars) joined Cell C, I would never have contemplated joining Cell C. But now they are a force to be reckoned with, and Vodacom in particular, are sitting up and taking notice. I have been with Cell C for 6 months on 5GB monthly data from Richards Bay, and am now considering giving up my home ADSL line, to buy a second 5GB per month data deal with Cell C.
I am hoping they will bring 42mbps to Richards Bay soon - they only need to upgrade 3 towers, and that will cover the entire city :D
Keep up the good work Lars

I am really impressed with what Lars has done. I cannot get ADSL in my area and without Cell C I would be paying Vodacom thousands of Rands a month. Now I pay R500 a month for my 12 gigs with Cell C. Probably going to buy another 5 gig promotional bundle soon!

Wow - R500 for 12GB is pretty decent. Getting that on Telkom would be about R131+R413+(12*R29) = R892

EDIT: 12GB (not 5GB)

Apart from the technical difficulties of providing the full speeds, I'm not aware of too many 42Mbps capable devices.

Please Lars... consider bigger packages. Even 30Gigs at a decent price and you will have my money.

Once you start using Internet for business, news and entertainment even 30Gigs will not cut it. I started with Mweb uncapped and quickly shot from 30GB a month to currently 90GB a month. I would drop Telkom in a second and willingly pay R1000 a month if it came with a 100GB cap.

An iPhone generates 24 times more data traffic than average. A tablet (like an iPad) is responsible for 122 times the traffic, and a laptop 515 times

Average what?

Speedtests using the same modems and equipment comparing Cell C and Vodacom saw differing results. Cell C won out right and was decidely faster when testing to a neutral server located in South Africa. When tests to international servers were run, Vodacom edged out Cell C, and performance was far lower than that evidenced in the local tests.

Can you post your results?

On my olde 2G network the problem is usually the hosted speedtest server and not the international link itself.
