8ta announces per-second billing for pre-paid customers

8ta will have to come out with much more if they want to make inroads into the market

Hey, it's that guy from Heroes!

Yes it would also be useful if one could buy airtime directly from ones bank account as one can for the other networks.

I actually thought per second billing was old news. But I see that 8ta revived it & put a young spin to it. ... Amazing things happen with 8ta.

Actually, you can, indirectly. Try 8time. I'm giving it a go tonight on a new prepaid SIM.

The last thing SA needs is another 'competitor' who is offering the same as the rest.

Pricing is so similar across the 4 companies that there is a strong whiff of collusion. Whatever the story, its hard to see anyone actively moving their business to 8ta, even with portability.

Actually, where's the clear incentive (blue water) to migrate between any of these players?

I like using banks as an analogy; there are the main-stream banks, then there is Capitec. Where is the Capitec of the mobile industry?

For Data its Cell C (IMHO) but for voice - I don't see any ground breaking business model or killer pricing.

OMG i thought the same thing, makes me wanna trust him LOL!:D

My sister wants to try a prepaid 8ta prepaid sim, but i really dont see myself joining 8ta with their Meh deals.

Why cant they sweeten the deals, at least to all the current Telkom landline owners?
I feel as if they are just pi***** away a great opportunity to actually properly compete with the big guns.
Eish Telkom, EISH.

make the R1.50 prepaid package per second billing and you got me hooked.R2.75 per min billing is taking us back to the cave ages.

At R2.75 its almost double at what vodacom is charging there prepaid customers at R1.40...
