Petition : Mweb Uncapped 4mb performing the same as a 1mb package

okay, the trolls are gonna love this post , but anyway...

for the last few weeks, the mweb uncapped SHAPED 4mb accounts have been kinda bleh/useless, on legal HTTP and other downloads.

now WHY are we paying for a 4mb product, if i could just as well get the mweb 1mb option, and get the same sucky speeds.

Local downloads and transfers are fine, running at near 4mb,
but most of the time, international downloads, like big sites, like microsoft / nvidia for example, are stuttering below 90KB/s.
again, this is intermittent, and at random times...

now this isnt a line fault, other isp's run 100% on our links, so it is definitely something to do with mweb.

please only reply here, if you are experiencing the same sucky results, but only on HTTP and legal downloads,
i dont care about torrents and nntp etc, cause , uhm, duh, its a shaped package...

Please everyone post your bad, experiences here so we can escalate this further

just check the response and disgust for the last few weeks there

I still love mweb, they are still a lot better than most other ISP's
but lately they seemed to have dropped their standards :(

**edit2 : yeah im just trying to get a headcount because if one more tech support guy tries to troubleshoot this like its just my problem, and ignoring that a lot of people all over the country experiencing this....
so that they can have a look at the issue at a broader scope, not at a per user basis...

I am having the same issues. ANY video streaming site doesn't work. Perpetual buffering. Saw a slight improvement yesterday though.

And a 1 Mbps account will be probably be shaped to 512 Kbps speeds.

My 512 Kbps account performed at 384 Kbps speeds on a good day, and I only got full speed between 1am - 6am. I'm just glad that I managed to get a Redafrica account, otherwise the other alternative would have been Openweb Gold Uncapped.
 
I am currently downloading from Adobe at 23.51 KB/s so much for the latest Acrobat reader. This is slower than a 384 kbs line and I'm also on 4MB uncapped.

But on that note. It's quite obvious that MWEB priced this for mass market. Why not let power users have an option like OPENWEB has with their GOLD packages? Nowhere near as expensive as unshaped but with better performance than Standard shaped. From what I understand of MWEB, having a totally separate package wouldn't be feasible, but what about assigning priorities to the traffic like ATC?

Shaped priority 3
GOLD priority 2
Unshaped priority 1

That way the power users pay more and the normal users dont subsidize everyone.

Lets hope this is a tempory speed wobble, buit I agree we have 4MB connections but downloads and even general browsing has taken s serious step backwards. Even Steam which I have set to download from the Mweb CPT server is bloody slow, Youtube is pointless, game preview vids in Steam, stream forever. All we ever get from Mweb is reset router or pm details, which never seem to help.

It's been going on for a while now, so I doubt it's temporary. This seems like a capacity issue to me.

My 4mb is giving me 384kbps performance. For a month now. Have been with Mweb for over a decade, but at this rate not for much longer. Still getting 400k/sec local and 20k/sec international.
 
I am on 384k and getting slow speeds too. Definitely not 384k speeds with alot of spiking.

I pm'd MWEB Guy yesterday and got my port and account re-authenticated and re-created which helped alot as speeds were full, 38kB/s to 40kB/s. Today however, slow again.
I pm'd him again earlier, but haven't received a reply yet.

So it's across the band not just 4mb.

YEah I don't know what is going on, I am currently downloading at between 45-50kb/ps on my 4mb line, just now working for me, mass overload or what...?
 
Not to bad in Pta East / Silverton. Suppose its got to do with centurion / parts of Jhb mostly. Will look at speed when I get home though and update.
 
we've been telling them that something is broken for 3 weeks now.

about a month now of trouble. Some severe shaping policies on all accounts including my works uncapped/unshapped account with them. Something is seriously wrong.

Agreed, I've been seeing a marked (25-50%) reduction in perceived HTTP performance across the board for the past 2-3 weeks. Normally the sites I frequent would come down at between 300-400KB/s, now it's closer to 200-300KB/s. Unfortunately I have no hard and fast numbers to prove anything on, but I'm definitely experiencing worse performance than normal.
