Cell C HSPA+ population coverage reaches 63%

Cell C has to complete their coverage plan as the roaming agreement with Vodacom comes to an end in 2015, not sure when in 2015.

Well done Cell C! You need 1 more base station in Lenasia/Lenasia South though. Can even offer you space on our plot (at market rates) to put up a tower. BWired have recently just trenched fibre along the border of the property. Also the property is huge - farmland. EIAs shouldn't be a problem. Our property is just outside the edge your coverage area. Send me a PM to get my contact details.

And Cell C have financial problems on-top of everything else! Makes Vodacom look pathetic.... Vodacom need to really catch a wake up. Well done Cell C, just keep it up and don't start sinking like the red ship.

Hey,I am covered as of last Tuesday afternoon ! ! ! THANK YOU cellC. Now I can get decent internet for the first time. I have downloaded a 15MB zip file in just over 20seconds ! ! ! Can it be? I am still rubbing my eyes. And all this at just over 30Rand a gig, all included, paid upfront and no strings attached. Telkak,Vodakak and all the other * * * now eat this :D

With only HSPA+ and 42Mbps selected, the map shows this:

That doesn't look like 63% to me, or am I missing something?

Edit: And yes I know it says population coverage. Still doesn't look like 63% of people covered in those bits.

Cell C noted that it had 15 major cities and their surrounding areas live on its HSPA+ 900 network, which translated to approximately 63% population coverage.

They brought Whoosh to Mafikeng, where I found myself last week. What a pleasure. At last. JEez, the VC signal at my brother's house was so bad in the past, one had to hang the modem out the window. Now, pure bliss.

On my way home, however, I had to stop and do some work (emergency call from client) that took about 10 minutes. That's 2 minutes shorter than it takes to prepare a cup of coffee at Pitstop, Coligny.

VC had 3G while Cell C was GPRS. I hope that coverage down major routes is also going to improve.
