This is becoming a serious irritation now. Is anyone experiencing something similar to this?
Here’s what’s happening:
Sometime in August, while on a call to my girlfriend, I was suddenly connected to another person. We spoke briefly, even laughed about how ridiculous Vodacom is, and then hung up. I tried calling my girlfriend again and was promptly connected to a random guy. He couldn't hear me. This repeated another two or three times. A colleague commented that she experienced some the same crossed lines-effect a week before. This didn't happen again. Until now.
About 45 minutes ago I was trying to call my girlfriend, but the network failed every time. I would hear nothing: no dial tone or a call connecting, but my phone would show that I had in fact been connected to a call for about 20 seconds. I don’t know how many times this happened over and over. I gave up trying after a while. A few minutes later she managed to phone me. She said she could hear me on some of the calls where I heard nothing. We hung up and I called her back, but then I was connected to a random person. I tried again and again. None of the random people could hear me and the connection was lost after about 10 seconds every time. This happened 4-5 times. I also received a call that was identified as my girlfriend but was also greeted by another random person.
I decided to restart my phone to establish a fresh connection with the network and called my girlfriend again. The call connected like normal - but with poor sound quality. She told me that she experienced more or less the same on her side: getting connected to random people who can't hear her. Our call was dropped after about three minutes.
Some technical details:
I was in Lynwood, Pretoria.
My girl was in Craighall Park, Joburg.
She's using a BlackBerrry, I'm using an iPhone.
We are both Vodacom subscribers.
