Hi

If you have an iPad (or planning to purchase one) and you want to take advantage of the prepaid 8ta data Plans (http://www.8ta.com/plans/ipad/), then you do need to get yourself a Micro SIM from any of the participating iStores.

To find the closest iStore to you, please navigate to this link http://www.8ta.com/plans/ipad/ and expand the How to buy section.

After you have purchased this SIM from an iStore and they did RICA it; only then you can register on the iPad portal (https://home.8ta.com/ipadreg).

Please note: Any SIM you purchased at any other store will not be able to register on this portal.

After you registered you can navigate to https://home.8ta.com/ipad to login to the iPad Self Service Portal.

Thank you
8ta

Is the data only valid for one month ?

"Pre-paid internet bundles will expire at the end of the next calendar month from the date of activation."

and does the data work on MTN's network if there is no 8ta Coverage?

And for those of us without convenient access to an iStore?

The only worthwhile data bundle at the moment is the free data you get when you recharge on cellc.

This...

So you are limiting ipad data plans to JHB, CPT and DBN?

ERROR 404

Pretty much, I'm in Pe and when I tried to get it done I couldn't and for my traveling the 2+1gb promo doesnt work, not enough coverage and the added pain of having to take the sim out each time for recharge. So my 8ta sim is in the draw, I'm using vodacom at the moment, they have a nice app to buy bundles etc suits my needs! Granted the 8ta iPad special is great, if I could use it!

I have been using this for about 3 months now, and it is fantastic. Fast speeds and very decent bundle pricing (R160 for a gig, and cheaper than buying AlwaysOn airtime). At the time I bought you could only get it from the Sandton iStore, has this changed now?

I also want to add my 5c...

I cut a standard 8ta SIM to size, and then tried to register it on 8ta's website, the URL being https://home.8ta.com/iam/public/registerIPad .... But I get an error because my ID number and the 8ta SIM ID is not paired.

However, the SIM was RICA'd successfully.

So, what gives?

I want to use 8ta, but it seems they don't want my money!

I'll give 8ta a week to give an answer - and at the end of the week I'm gonna move over to CellC. Simple as that.

Regards

As mentioned above the iPad special bundle is only available for sims from iStores.

Besides, why hack up a sim when they'll give you a micro sim for free?

The customer doesn't want to be restricted. Once you start restricting customers as to what they can and cannot do, you'll start to lose their trust.

So, what do we have to do to take advantage of these plans if there is no iStore in our area????

Travel to Gauteng or CT where there's an iStore? I think not.

Can't I get an 8ta SIM at any iStore here in Gauteng, mail it to you & you'll have to RICA it? Won't that work?

Seems like we have to rica it in an istore. What I'd like to know is why but the rep is being unresponsive on the matter.

Edit. I'm running low on data so I'm asking myself do I wait for a response or simply head on over to cellc and take their 3gb bundle.

I don't think it's the RICA-ing in an iStore that does it, I think it's the SIM itself. Hence, if you were able to get a SIM from an iStore, it wouldn't matter where you RICA-ed it, it would be eligible for the discounted bundles.

That's not the impression I get from the OP

or from the website where it says
To take advantage of these amazing iPad Data plans, please visit your nearest iStore. Do not forget to bring your iPad, plus all the documents required for RICA, to the iStore.

The OP does also state
Please note: Any SIM you purchased at any other store will not be able to register on this portal.
which leads me to believe it's the SIMs and not the RICA-ing process.

Anyways, this is semantics. First you've gotta convince an iStore to give you an unRICA-ed SIM...
