R7700 for a R5500 phone?
If you want to pay it off then it'll cost even more than R7700 because you'll have to take out a personal loan or put it on a credit card.Paying something off always costs more.
Are these phones locked?.
They're not supposed to be locked. I wanted to confirm they weren't doing it anyway. No, the government do not allow any phones to be network-locked in SA.

According to the Vodacom site they're throwing in 100Mb data per month, but otherwise that contract comes with nothing and they bill calls by the minute. The only reason I can see for the contract to even still exist is as a way for someone to pay off a phone. What does the business package comprise of? Is it just the phone for R299 p/m?

In this case the phone works out slightly cheaper than buying it outright and that's the only reason I can see for this contract. Why would anyone pay R185 a month for the contract itself? It doesn't even offer cheap rates.I have one - I mainly receive calls, however I use the Vodafone passport when travelling internationaly, plus you get a (partially) subsidised phone to boot (I normally pay in the difference).
