Hi all,
I have just bought a Telkom branded Netgear DGN2200M router for use with my 8ta Huawei E367 dongle. According to the Netgear site this dongle should be supported, but it does not work for me. Now I do not have the latest firmware on my router, and after reading some other posts on this forum on this topic, I tried to upgrade my firmware. Problem is that I keep on getting a "Firmware upgrade failed. Please check your file." message. SOOOOO frustrating!!!! Is there a log somewhere that will tell me what is going wrong? Anybody had this problem or have any ideas?

The file I am downloading is a .CHK file, but the site says that it will be looking for a .IMG file. Would this be the problem (looks unlikely to me, though)?

Can I just download the stock firmware from the Netgear site, or is there a Telkom version somewhere?

Some info:
- officially the router is a DGN2200Mv2 (note the v2), but the firmware I downloaded from Netgear's site is for DGN2200M since I cannot find it specific for the v2
- I have tried the upgrade via wireless and wired connections, both same error message
- I have tried Firefox and IE, both the same error message

Thx in advance!

To get the E367 to work with the DGN2200M, you need to upgrade the firmware of the E367 - not the Netgear.

Do that and they'll work perfectly.

Hi Dean,
Thanks for the advice. I can't wait for Xmas lunch to be over so that I can go home and try it out!

Regards!

Just a thought - where would I get the update for my E367 firmware? I did try the link from the menu in the 8ta software to check for upgrades, but found none. Also a Google search did not yield any conclusive results (a lot of third party sites offering unlocking firmware etc etc).

Could you point me in a direction?

I was given a YouSendIt link from the Netgear SA agents - which has since expired. I'd poke around the Huawei website in the support section - although I haven't had many good experiences with their site :|

Hi Dean,
Thx for your answers. I have since contacted HCOM (Netgear suppliers) and they will send me a link to the firmware upgrade for my dongle as mentioned by you. This will happen next week when their offices are open. I will see what happens then.

Cool, if you don't come right with them, I dealt with the guys at Duxbury. They will also be able to help.
Cheers

Hi Dean,
Thx for your pointers. Thx to you I have got it working. For anybody else reading this thread, the Huawei E367 firmware upgrade to make it work with the Telkom branded DGN2200M is NOT available on Huawei's site. Get in contact with Duxbury or Hcom and get them to send you a YouSendIt link (just like Dean said) to download the firmware upgrade for the E367.

Thx again Dean!

I also eventually got my DGN2200M router to see the E367 Dongle by upgrading the firmware as per your suggestion and a few calls to HCOM...

HOWEVER, if I use the USB modem straight with my laptop I get around 6Mbps DL and 3Mbps UL speeds, but when connected to the DGN2200M it gives only around 2.5Mbps DL and if I am lucky 0.25Mbps UL.

I have tried with the and without the USB extension cable.

The DGNv2200 is on the FW version that it came with from Telkom (telkom branded router) and the E367 was updated with E367Update_11.810.09.20.00.B726.exe which I got from HCOM.

I don't know why Telkom says it will all work fine if there are these FW issues and then also the speed issue. The UL speed is disastrous...

Hope someone can help/advise me.

Customized Netgear N300 / DGN2200Mv2 router of Telkom - and some drawbacks

Tx to this thread, I was directed to HCOM and the guys were very helpful!

To share my newfound knowledge, here's a quote from their email:

"The DGN2200Mv2 that we provide to Telkom to sell to their ADSL customers is 100% customised for Telkom. That means that the firmware on the Telkom version is according to Telkom’s specifications and the features on the product also slightly differ from each other. The stuff you read on the internet on Netgear’s website and the firmware version 1.0.0.33 and 36 has all to do with the retail version of the DGN2200 and not the Telkomised one. You cannot load the retail version firmware on this product since Telkom has blocked this and only allows the Telkomised version of firmware. If there is later versions of firmware available (which there currently aren’t), we will make that available on our website and on Telkom’s website. The Telkomised version is also the reason why your registration also failed.

Wrt the features you require, 3G failover definitely work on the router but Telkom requested that only the following dongles are supported:

o Huawei E153 (generic E1550),

o Huawei E173 (generic E1750)

o Huawei E1820

These were the 8ta dongles at the time when the product were approved. The E367 will also be supported shortly as the new version of Firmware is about to be tested that supports this dongle. As long as it is one of these dongles, it will work, does not matter which mobile operator you use."

Telkom have also disabled the ReadySHARE / filesharing / USB memory feature of the hardware

Hope it helps.

Oh, and HCOM said "a new version of Firmware to implement this. It should be available towards the end of March if all goes well."
By the sounds of it this should resolve the E367 dongle issue and ReadySHARE / file sharing feature

does anyone have any updated information regarding this crippled hardware we paid far too much for?

Any more info about the upgraded firmware for the router?

Hi All,

I'm one of the ripped one's from Telkom. As pips we need to take power back to the people as we're the one's paying. I have a Netgear Router DGN2200m so called v2 from Telkom. I bought 3 modems now but all of them don't work with 8ta sim card. Router version is 1314284741_DGN2200v2-Telkom_DO-V1.0.0.27_1.0.27, I have the telkom firmware v1.0.0.27 but its useless. I know my way with equipment like this but now I hate netgear & telkom. A company without support to customers that is really not a good service. I'm getting my self a new router & ISP (axxess) people or companies that know what are customers.

I closed by saying Companies & Government are not suppose to be on top of people as we are the one's paying for that service been offered. So people It will start with a voice or text but one day we will, we will stand together black, white, orange & blue fighting for our right as customers.

A company with good customer service is the one that will last.

Cyberdalia..........

Why disable readyshare?
