New Apple TV launched

Fantastic device. I only wish it would provide support for formats other than mp4.

I will be getting another of these later this year.

I doubt it will work as intended here in sa. I dont see us streaming 1080 over telkom lines. And it only supporting mp4 is useless. Apparntly you can jailbreak the apple tv and load plex on it, which will then support all the divx, avi, mkvs etc. Just seems like a load of effort when you can just buy a xtreamer which does all of this and it problerly cheaper.

This will be jailbroken in short order and xbmc will run on it....

I am placing my order for two shortly....

They're pretty much the best priced HTPC type device out there in my opinion, especially since it can now do 1080p.

Where you getting them from?
I see the 2's get sold on gumtree, jailbroken, for R999.

You can use Air Video to stream any format, but...really you have to jailbreak and install XBMC. It's pure awesomeness.

Excuse my Noobness here buy what does it do/what so you use it for..? Is it just like a PS3 when You stream movies etc..?

In a nutshell you stream movies and music to it. And run XBMC on it if jailbroken.

Is it possible to use Netflix through Apple TV if you have a VPN set-up?I am a noob at this so please excuse my ignorance in advance :)

The problem we have with Netflix is you have to be located in the US to use the service. In order to get Netflix to work here in South Africa, we need to actually browse and use Netflix via a server that is physically located in the US. Sound complicated? Not really. Enter the VPN (Virtual Private Network).

Different strokes for different folks I guess. For me -

1) As your media collection grows larger it makes sense to move off to dedicated storage (NAS, server etc) and stream - ATV is perfect for this, and relatively inexpensive
2) Integration of itunes, iOS devices, Airplay and Remote is fantastic and works very well
3) Crazy small form factor to run XBMC on
