BlackBerry Internet Service outage strikes again

I originally went the Blackberry route for fixed cost internet and email and of course for the superb BBM service.

With broadband cuts the price of data bundles has plumeted and now it is cost effective to use any device for apps/email/surfing and just slap a data bundle onto your contract.

That leaves BBM as the only drawcard and last night's frustration was pretty much my last straw!!

Android upgrade in Jan 2013 here I come.....
 
Since BB is an enterprise phone I think Microsoft is either going to buy RIM or take a stake in it and BB10 will be shelved for WinRT.
If Microsoft has Nokia and RIM in its pocket then they will more effectively be able to compete against Google'sAndroid and Apple.
For another 3 quarters RIM will continue its slide and the more time passes the more likely the RIM board will have to do a strategic shift.

The price of data bundles has not plummeted.
Especially if you are bolting them onto a contract.
Maybe for standalone data contracts this is true.

Although Cell C's 3gb valid for 12 months suits smart phones quite well.

I'm not a blackberry lover in fact I was using my one x at the time. But I remember MTN data going down?
Are these outages normal but RIM just get more flack because when its their turn only one brand of smartphone is affected?
 
I am on Vodacom and I seem to remember seeing that a 1GB add on data bundle is going for R99 per month - off the vodacom site if memory serves.

So that is R30 more per month than the Blackberry BIS service and faaaar superior speeds and uptime!!
 
Blackberry is soooooo... 2011.

Had a blackberry for about 2 months and then sold the thing on gumtree, got an Android phone and it's just so much better than any blackberry.

A few hours of downtime and RIM is suddenly the Antichrist.
Be grateful that the sinking ship is still trying to get you to dry land.

I dont use BB but see value in their patents, so i will not know about the dry land but the writing is on the wall re: them dying

Downtime just add to the problem when they seriously do not need it.

I am sitting here in Bushmans with friends and the outage case my friend to use my phone to fire off an email, 1st time he actually used an Android. He claimed come August he will be looking at an Android phone(No idea if he will follow through). The whole experience would not have happened if it was not for the downtime. I am not claiming this is the only one or that this alone will hurt them just that downtime can cause people to see things they normally would not notice.

Playing with a Android tablet running 3.1 ( Honeycomb? ). It's nice but my BB still my best communications tool ( bbm, facebook, twitter, mail etc ).
