Afrihost has made a surprising ADSL decision, aims to “bring the highest quality, best value products to our clients”

I hope this is just a negotiating tactic to get IS to drop its bandwidth pricing because MTN's Joburg datacentre is not exactly known for flawless uptime and redundancy.
 
Not sure what to make of it tbh.

There are others offering IS, so I guess its a diversity win.

Def a gutsy move though, since arguably one shouldn't mess with something that isn't broken.
 
I don't trust eMpTyN at all. Their data centers are always crashing due to some or other issue. Afrihost I hope you know what you're doing, and you hold them to a solid SLA. And don't put all your eggs in their basket. I wouldn't want to lose almost 3 years faith in you due to eMpTyN's crap.
 
At work we moved from IS to MTN Business last year. What a disaster. Speeds just yo-yo constantly, when it's working.
 
I support a couple of clients running dedicated links on MTN's backbone... yeah good luck to the Afrihost ADSL subscribers.
 
Wow, what a bold move. There has to be some major financial benefit to Afrihost in this deal. I simply can't see any other reason why they would do this. And don't try and sell me that "...for our customers !" story.
I hope this doesn't backfire on them.

Well if there is a financial benefit to the move afrihost are petty good at passing it on to their subscribers. So if MTN can get their network stable this should be good for us too.
 
MTN's data centre has had a lot of downtime this year. I have been happy with Afrihost for both ADSL and dedicated hosting and if I sniff any performance degradation I will look else ware. Afrihost, think carefully what you are doing.

I just hope that the latency and consistency I have found with Afrihost stays. I have already gone through two other ISP's, don't really feel like seeking out another one.

Afrihost will be moving their ADSL services from Internet Solutions (IS) to MTN

We've moved from MTNNS because it was so kak, would be interesting to see how this turns out. Besides, didn't MTN deal with terrorists ?

Agreed. But i'm not too confident with mtn though. They do have a history of sugar-coating turd and selling it to their customers as turkish-delights :sick:
