New iPod pricing for South Africa revealed

Why can't Apple just use the same connectors as everybody else. Although I love my iPod I detest having to cart along extra adaptors

Because it is innovative, and called lightning and I'm sure there are more reasons.

Cerebus, come help me out here with reasons why Apple uses their own connectors please. I can't seem to think of anything else except...

There is nothing lightning about the new connector. It is plain usb 2.0 with a special connector containing a chip so that nobody can produce copies of the cable, thus forcing everybody to pay $30 for it.

The connector had to evolve. It served Apple well for nearly a century. The 30 pin connector was putting limitations on the device itself. Besides, it made a good dust magnet. After a couple of years, people would have forgotten about the 30 pin adaptor. Sometimes, change is painful but necessary. Whether Apple should have rather gone with the ubiquitous micro usb port is another matter altogether.

A century ? really ? How was that possible when Steve Jobs grandfather was still in nappies ?

I'm just wondering if the new iPods will scratch easily. I have read issues of the iPhone 5 (Black) getting scruff marks.

Now what will we be charged for the iPad Mini when the iPod Touch already costs over R3000, especially considering the official price of the Nexus 7 (both wi-fi only)? Get the idea the iPad Mini will not cost much less than its big brother then.

What you guys/girls think a 16 GB iPad Mini with 3G should cost? Fair price?

Been wanting to get a gen4 ipod for some time, hopefully the price on those will drop now that the new ipod is out! :D

This is crazy. I'd much rather buy a 16GB Nexus 7 (which I have already done) for that money. iPod Touch looks like a great device though.

Around R3200 but that is with Wi-Fi only. I will far rather buy the Nexus 7 for the same price as a 32GB iPod Touch.

Very different devices though. You wouldn't lug your nexus off to the gym would you? Or on your run? But nexus would be far more versatile and much better suited to browsing, video playback, remote support, email etc etc etc
