Hi there

We have received complaints about vote soliciting in the latest photo competition. This put other entrants at a disadvantage, and we therefore decided to open a new poll for this competition.

Can you please vote for the photo which you think is the best. Please vote for the best photo, and not for the person.

No asking for votes please!

Jagged Reflection by Matt.ZA

Here is a recent photo of mine from my trip to Iceland. Shot with an old Sony A100 - I could totally do with a new Canon EOS 500D

say what? what's to stop people voting exactly the same way anyway?

Maybe they should open it up to top25 entrants *nudge* *nudge* *wink* *wink*
Nah but more seriously, the admins can see, at the very least, who sent messages to who and who voted on what, I imagine. I'm not naming names, not that it was relevant in my case anyway, but I did receive at least one request for my vote. Personally, I abhor the concept since that very same concept caused a lot of worthy photos to lose out on last year's Canon Expo competition, so as far as I'm concerned vote-whoring is a dick move.

Vote for whoever has the most merit for their work, not the best sucking up skills or friends.

Hello. I am not sure as to what all this is now about. I have asked my friends to vote for me if they think my pic is good. Below is the pm I sent to my friends here and my mafia colleagues:

Hello (insert name) !!!

I was wondering, if you have not voted in the photo competition yet, if you would mind voting for my photo please!! I really would love to win a camera, it will really be wonderful to win a good camera! If you think my photo is good, please may you vote for me?

My photo is the Migration photo

I would really appreciate it so very much!

Thank you!!
Nicci
xx

Other people has also asked openly and publicly for votes:

I don't see how it is different soliciting for votes in private and on a public forum. I don't know, I kinda feel this is more personal than anything else, but I might be wrong, and I apologize if I am.

Many thanks
Nicci

Well then, that's all the more reason to open it up to include my- uhhh, more entries! I'm certain the majority of people on this forum hate me, so the only reason they'd vote for my photo is if they liked the photo, not me :D
You should be mindful of owning up to something like that out of the blue though, Nicci - you're not necessarily the only one that sent a PM to people

At least she's open and honest about it ...

I believe in being honest, and I don't believe I was in the wrong by asking friends / colleagues to vote if they like my photo is wrong then it should have stated in the rules. How does people in like Idols win? They all ask for their friends and family to vote. I am very saddened by this now :( :( :(
