Microsoft Windows 8 open for pre-orders in the US

Already have my Win8 rtm up and running... there's a lot to get used to but I'm liking it more and more every day

Oh, How the mighty have fallen!

Vodscum should take some lessons.

From $200.00 to $40

We can thank Open Source Operating Systems for this.

I like Windows but after my last experience with Windows 7, I nearly wanted to kill myself, I would wait until most teething issues are sorted before installing it.

Or you can thank economy of scale....
Windows 7 has more than 600 million installations worldwide and because of windows activation they made it harder to pirate so more of them are legit... In windows xp days there were not nearly as many PCs in the world, so with today's amazing numbers of pcs out there they can afford to price it lower.

Windows 7 was easy to crack though, much easier than xp.

You could download activated versions, you didn't even need a loader.

The open source community has got nothing to do with this. They're moving their revenue streams to online services like Office 365, Azure, SkyDrive and the Windows store.

For that price I might actually just purchase my 1st ever windows, I feel the price you pay for the OS was way over priced.

Yea that's true. I think it's because they had no other way of generating revenue off of it, that's changed now with the windows store.

Pay for a tablet OS - no thanks

Oi... :wtf:

Poop, that's cheap. But I already have msdn premium and every other Microsoft product....

What is OS X ML, Gnome 3 and Ubuntu Unity?

No I'm a MS user - Win7, where i'll be staying...far as i'm concerned what they've done to the desktop is a complete abortion, useful change for touchscreens & a pain to get anywhere otherwise. I did install the trial & try it - i hate it.
