Planetside 2 (Free To Play)

I played the Beta for about 3 months, epic game imho. Already downloaded the final release on Steam and made an account on the Miller (EU) server playing as NC :D

BTW, the trailer you posted, I've watched that about 50 times, it never gets old ;)

And the release trailer:

Will be seeing you soon then on the Miller server.

Saw some concept videos of the game about 2/3 years ago, completely forgot about it till I got my notification in the Email today.

I am downloading this now but not via steam. Straight from the website

Would it be better to do it via steam?

I prefer Steam as a method to keep my games up to date, also the fact that they have local mirrors helps with that decision(Get proper download rates), but I guess its all up to the individual.

Factions
Terran Republic
An authoritarian government that leverages military might to maintain strict control over the colonial citizens. The Terran Republic is obsessed with the preservation of law and order and are thus seen by some to be an oppressive and dictatorial force, but many view the TR as the only hope for lasting security on Auraxis.

New Conglomerate
The New Conglomerate operates as a loosely organized band of freedom fighters, vehemently opposed to the stranglehold that the Terran Republic has on Auraxis. Led by an unusual quorum of outcasts, industry titans, and pirates, the New Conglomerate is unwavering and prepared to achieve freedom from oppression by any means necessary.

Vanu Sovereignty
The Vanu believe that only through the mysterious power of ancient technology can humanity truly evolve its next state of existence. They are an advanced and cunning faction, employing powerful alien technology on the battlefield. Their singular purpose is to uncover the secrets hidden away in ancient artifacts scattered over the surface of Auraxis and they annihilate anyone who interferes with their progress.

I am sooo joining VS.
Hate them Rebel scum and not a fan of "the empire" either.
Science is the answer!!!! :D

I will be joining the Republic. Looking forward to killing you scientist noobs on the battlefield :D

PS what server must we join? Does anyone know what sort of ping we can expect?

Well StoneCold was on Miller (EU) as NC so may as well join him?

As for ping will only know once I get home.

This looks fantastic! Going to try it out.
@People who played the beta: how's the balance between paid vs free account players?
Hope this is not another "freemium" that favor players with deep pockets :P

Cash can only buy you good looks. Everything else can be gathered via XP, well you can fast track xp with $$ or that is what I understand:

Business model

PlanetSide 2 will be free-to-play. The developers have indicated an admiration of the League of Legends model, also known as the Freemium business model. It will feature certain free aspects, and will include a cash shop. The cash shop will not sell items such as guns or vehicles that make players more powerful, instead the shop will sell equipment, obtainable through the game progressions and cash shop exclusive things such as visual customizations. The shop will also offer XP booster and resource booster implants that will not take up one of your implant slots, last 24 hours, and award increased XP or resource gains while active

It's not pay to win, you can unlock the majority of the things just by playing. Ok, some items I suppose are a bit hard to get soon (if you're willing to fork out some cash). They also have a bonus XP promotion running at the moment which let's you rank faster and gain points to buy certifications for your weapons and classes.

@kytonpc:

Forget it, we'll never get one as our local player base is way too small. The game uses client side hit registration, I made 2 accounts (both of them NC) one on a US East server and another on EU (Miller). And there is virtually no lag between either server. If you see the enemy first, and start shooting first he dies. You don't even notice any lag, it's really playable :)

Aaargghh there is a queue! And guess what, you can pay to not be in the queue...

Anyhow, played this in beta, awesome game, it being F2P, no excuse to not try it.

Oh and on a secondary note, if you want to do what the guys are doing in the first video, play Light Infantry, only they get the Jetpacks ;-) . Infiltrator if you into the stealth thing ;) Even though that clip is not actual gameplay, i must admit, it's not far from how the game is actually.

Getting a G37 error. If you have a Steam account rather get it from there, it seems like a few guys are having better luck through Steam than with a direct download.

Well with the amount of people per server (2000+) and the game not in beta anymore, I suppose a queueing system is not the end of the world. ;)

WTH...

Installing updates, Erm that's why I use Steam dammit, so I do not need to install updates :(

Edit: Guess it gives me time to RTFM I mean Watch the Training Movies: http://www.planetside2.com/game-tutorials?visit_source=lp4-soe

And now we que.... This reminds me of the good old Tribes days. Oh and Miller server has all 3 Factions at 33% <-- if true should be pretty balanced.

Well you can roll 3 characters per server (different faction), so technically anyone can switch faction on the server, but yea, i've found in beta , somehow the balances between factions were very close , no idea why. There is however bonus system in place, so smaller factions gets a bonus to things.

Queue isn't too long at least (15 minutes) , problem will come when you crash or lose connection.

Just amusing to note, the USA got 6 servers while EU got 2 servers. Guess they don't think much of the europeans ;)
