Planetside 2 (Free To Play)

I see alot of complaining on the official forums about Miller being laggy, so worth checking out the other server. If europeans moan about lag, then you know there's real lag. I played a bit on Miller and did notice warping/rubber banding with alot of vehicles, close quarters was fine though.

Good news, i see they brought 2 more servers online. So no queues on them for now, but i see they are already on "High" population.

Heh, nah, they're complaining about the 3rd party company running things in europe (it's not SOE, it's ProBienSat1 or something like that). I am considering checking out the USA East servers, since they are high population right now too and at least it's run by SOE themselves. Europeans always end up being 2nd rate citizens with these games.

I made a character, V1p3rM4n as NC on the US East server (the top one, can't recall the name now), didn't notice any lag whatsoever :)

And my primary character, StoneCold, on EU (Miller) also as NC :D

EDIT: It's the Mattherson server

Ok, i rolled on Mattherson (US East) too, so far so good. Didn't notice any lag (unlike the EU servers) and the population is high. I see there are 6 EU servers now, but i am thinking they are not up to shape. Just a quick scan on the forums shows anyone that has lag is on EU servers.

FYI for those who install and have a usb joystick. Unplug the usb joystick as it will most probably cause a CTD on launch.

Kinda Wish I found that like 3 days ago :)

When you start the 1st time round it just drops you into the action thinking you know everything. No line up or tutorial on how you do what. Needles to say my LvL 10 Engineer is rocking it. Well after I wasted some Certs on crap I should not have bought. Like Suite slot items I bough shield speed, health increase and Flak armor thinking you use all 3. Only found out later you need to Equip em and only one at a time :(

Also the Night scope sucks esp when you try long distance shots. All and all, not a bad game at all. In fact I am surprised its free. I felt no need to spend $$ on decals or boosters.

Hehe, luckily i learned that lesson in beta with the certificates. Almost all the certification abilities are things that you need to equip on your character, and unfortunately you only have limited slots. Same thing with the vehicles, even a certification that sounds "permanent" is actually something you need to equip, example "improved handling" or "improved speed" or "improved hill climbing" , all take up the same slot, so you can't have a speed AND handling improvement on your vehicle at the same time.

As for $$ spending, you can buy more things than just decals and boosters. There's a ton of guns to buy, and yes you can unlock it with certifications too (although we're talking 1000 certif points for some guns). I bought the Alpha Squad pack which gave me some station cash and one of the first things i bought was an automatic rifle for my infiltrator.

The infiltrator , other than sniping, is the only class that can hack enemy turrets/depots , and i love sneaking into a base and hacking all their stuff. Hacking "converts" the turret/depot to your side, so you can use it right inside the enemy base. Can be quite amusing when the battle starts breaking out and the enemy realise they can't spawn vehicles because the vehicle depot was hacked.

Anyway, point being, infiltrator gets "stuck" with a sniper rifle which sucks horribad when you're running close quarters inside a base. So if you still want to play infiltrator but actually want to shoot like a light assault, there are options with some $$.

Cool, 3 things I must add for new people.

1: Play each class for a bit before you spend any certs, and make sure you what class you want to play and enhance.
2: Stick to class you selected and upgrade it, they become a hell of a lot more fun once some certs are spent.
3: For me the game was meh till level 5, on that level you start getting extra unlocks. At 10 I got Hooked badly. I think my Wife might file for divorce by the time I reach 30...

And even if you can play this game totally without ever paying a cent, you always have that nagging feeling that you wanna. (Esp to unlock some cammo and a cool gun quickly)
