Finally got it :D
I'm rolling VS on Matterson (US East) and TR on Cobalt (EU)

Nick: VirulentOo

I bought the Alpha Squad pack which gave me some station cash and one of the first things i bought was an automatic rifle for my infiltrator.
.

Great tips. Got any more?

What was the cost of the Alpha Squad pack?

I am playing with the VS as an infiltrator/Assault, I couldn't figure out which one until now. So far I picked up 4x magnification scope for my rifle, needless to say I'm fodder at close range. Will I need to drop it once I get the ASP?

Another neat Beginners guide. It does look like it was made in BETA but most items still worth a notice.

Performance is unplayable.

What system do you have, also what server/network you using? I have seen some forums say the game is Memory hungry, more than CPU hungry.

I have no complaints on either lag or game play issues. (All FX on max)
Playing via Mweb uncapped(US East) on a i7 with 8 gig ram and Nvidia 470

I think it probably has a bit to do with my PC specs

Core2Duo, Geforce 9600gt, 4 gigs RAM

That said, I can run other games with graphics better than this on low settings. Even with render quality at 50% it still is the same fps lag, so I dunno if it might be something to do with the game.

I doubt the other games have maps of the same size? :)

Looking at the steam page you hit bare minimum,

Minimum:
OS: Windows XP
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 or higher / AMD Phenom II X2 or higher
Memory: 4 GB RAM
Graphics: nVidia GeForce 8600 series or higher / AMD or ATI 4850 series or higher
DirectX®: 9.0
Hard Drive: 15 GB HD space
Sound: DirectX compatible Sound Card
Other Requirements:Broadband Internet connection

Recommended:
OS: Windows 7
Processor: Intel i5 processor or higher / AMD Phenom II X6 or higher
Memory: 6 GB RAM
Graphics: nVidia GeForce 540 or higher / AMD HD 6870 or higher
DirectX®: 9.0
Hard Drive: 15 GB HD space
Sound: DirectX compatible Sound Card
Other Requirements: Broadband Internet connection

Try dropping the FX quality to lowest settings?

Everything is on the bare minimum. The thing that's odd is that I can set the settings all to medium or to low, but it makes no difference to the performance.

Alpha Pack was $40 and gave 5000 station cash and unlocked 1 weapon extra per class, and a few camo/decals stuff , i bought this all in beta already.

As for scopes, yea you can only have one on a weapon at given time, but usually the scopes are generic and can be used on multiple weapons. So think carefully. Although you can get far with the pistol too (with a different scope on that). I'd think it depends on what kind of infiltrator you plan to play, if you are going to sneak around the bases, suppression i'd probably say is vital, especially in more quiet bases. The stealth cloak , i can only say don't rely on that too much, it's great when getting to the base unseen or when you're standing still on a hilltop, but once inside, just that loud noise it makes when you cloak/uncloak can be heard very far, plus the bit that you can't shoot while cloaked. I probably got more kills from killing cloaked infiltrators than any other class, you can see that cloaked sneaker very easy in the base and knowing they can't shoot back, sitting duck.

I tend to play Light Assault with an adrenaline pump (the run speed boost) which uses the armor slot , which implies i'm not wearing ANY extra armor. Snipers one-shot me easily, but being able to run fast en jetpack into a base tends to catch alot of players off guard. I've gotten closer to enemies on their walls (who's sitting in turrets) as LA (as in stabbing them with my knife before they spot me) than i ever did with Infiltrator. You can also dodge a tank quite easily, if you unlock the c4 explosives, you can run up to a tank and stick that to them and bam. Although Heavy Assault is much better at taking out vehicles with the rocket launcher (although my aim with that sucks).

I'd say Light Assault is great "all rounder" class to play. Infiltrator got their uses, but i am terrible at sniping, so hacking terminals is would i do most with my infiltrator (converting a base's turrets and terminals and using it against the enemy). Medic, i don't play it alot, you MUST be in a squad who's playing with some sort of plan to be a medic, randomly healing people in some chaotic fight doesn't tend to work for me. Engineer, much better chance at playing support, can drop ammo (trust me, if you live too long you run out of ammo lol) and a repair turrets, vehicles etc. Plus a MAX with an engineer to repair them is deadly.

Either way, i tend to combine a bit of supporting and jumping into action. So i enjoy driving around in a Sunderer (must get the mobile deploy upgrade, which allows players to change their class also at the sunderer) and ensuring players spawn close to fight (and able to resupply ammo etc etc). This make a huge huge difference.

I think everyone is canon fodder at close range (except a MAX) , it's who shoots first. If you move fast enough you can limit the surprise factor a little.

Oh as for certificates, i get most of my certs from being in a squad and actually capturing and defending bases, not from random kills out in the middle of nowhere. So i suggest join a squad and play towards an objective (it's usually very obvious where the fight is, or where it should be). Even if your faction is totally crushed on a continent and camped at their warpgate, making that push back can be very rewarding).

If you can get this kind of performance you are sorted, awesome video showing off the game for real:

LOL diabolus, I see you're posting your video here as well :D

Does make me want to play PS2 though, just waiting for a download to finish, good job ;)

Heh, i'm jumping between forums. Not my video though, there's a guy in GOON playing as a camera man , i think he uses a scope while recording the vids.

Either way, this is a free game, as much as people complain about performance and such, it is a pretty solid game that you don't have to pay for.

TR on Mattherson is the place to be, you'll find the myBB outfit there.

NC is the place to be on Mattherson, TR can go suck it :p

Maybe I'll make a TR character just to join seeing that very few SA players play as NC, let alone on the same server :erm:

TR on Mattherson sucks beyond, now I know why.

Noobs cant even hold a base for long, wait, when they see a NC tank brigade roll in they run for the hills.

LOL I am running TR on Matterson "worfza"

I really prefer the challange with the TR.I find it boring when you easily walking over a base. Yeah the TR group are battling big time with the lack of their own air and tank brigades to defend and/or assualt with. But after a few hours of endless fighting, to take a simple outpost feels like a major victory. Hence why I'll keep going back in the middle of the battle and repeatly die and yet I enjoy every sec of the game.

Oh and I run medic, just wish ppl would learn to stand still so I can heal. I sometimes crack up with laughter when you see a guy running and the medic running behind him, trying to heal lol.

Dude, TR has some serious air support. Trust me I know, about 50% of my deaths are because of those dam flyers. Also if you want to walk over people just stick to Indar(TR's main continent)

As for medic, try engineer I pop a ammo pack and progress like 4 meters and some knob ask me for ammo spamming the request as if I did not hear them the 1st time. Its like ?WTF man can you not see the 3 bullet hologram just behind me????"

Overall I looove this game, its like Battlefield just a crap load bigger and no map reset in x Minutes. It really feels like you part of some huge donkey war for resources.

I hate engineer, if it isn't some dude shooting you for ammo because he can't see the last pack a 1m behind or a tank backing up while you tring to repair it and dont get me started on the max, who include you into their firing range while you repairing them grrrr.
Having a turrent swipped from you while repair itor you spot in the tank taken while you doing repairs.
