Afrihost uncapped ADSL goes unshaped (7 March 2013)

I have been thoroughly enjoying it since the beginning of the month. The question now is: why would anyone go for a capped account?

AH cant even keep their current customers happy, whats gonna happen if the whole country flocks to them (which will happen).

No thx, im happy at openweb for the moment, very little shaping

I tried afrihost during the time when they were still switching and upgrading the network and the service was terrible. I think if you give them another month or so, then they would be a strong competitor and might look into trying them out again.

What about throttling?
not sure why anyone would sign up with AH, and their complicated, throttling and "rolling window" policy.

Not sure if the same policy has been applied to the Axxess equivalent package but I'm getting superb performance on their 10mb uncapped account.

I fail to see how a hosting issue that happened a month ago at IS is even remotely related to unshaping uncapped on the MTN network which is what the topic has been about.

Yes the switch to MTN was a little painful, however my uncapped ADSL line has been absolutely fine for ages now and I rarely if ever get throttled.

It will be interesting to see if the unshaping lowers gaming latency a little however.

Afrihost is confident that their additional capacity will more than handle the additional traffic, and after a week has passed they will re-assess their current shaping policies.

Wait... they may still revert to shaping?

What a joke.

Wait, you're making the data unshaped and then you will review your shaping policies? Wut? So which is it, are they completely removing shaping or only dropping shaping a little bit?

“We will absorb the cost of additional unshaped bandwidth completely,” the company said.
What "cost" ? Afrihost buys capacity from Telkom, NOT data.

Whether they shape or unshape the data is completely up to the ISP. What "cost" is involved in unshaping it? Infact they are getting money back as their "shaper hardware" effectively becomes useless for the uncapped network.

Let's hope for the best, their products were good when they were on IS, but the initial move and teething problems with MTN lead a very sour taste in my mouth.

as myBB publishes this their hosting goes down, again!
The Bryanston DC for IS has been giving quite a few issues the last while, unrelated to their ISP served by MTN

That was on IS,MTN network they dont have any rolling windows or throttle

If the above is what I understand it to be, then consider the following:
100gb capped R790
10mbps uncapped R797

Surely then there is no advantage to signing up to 100gb or higher capped accounts? Therefore, why don't afrihost remove any capped options from 100gb and higher?
