I struggled to find info online about AppleCare in South Africa, and whether international AppleCare is honoured here. When people say "Core is not Apple" it created the impression that there is problems with Apple support in South Africa.
Until I spoke with Core technical support today I was under the impression that AppleCare is not easily honoured locally, and that local ZA Apple limited warranty is so diluted that one would struggle to get real hardware replacement-level support.
After speaking to Core technical support they however assured me that they are capable and willing to replace less than perfect Retina displays with image retention problems or off-color patches. One only needs to book the macbook into the nearest iStore and wait a typical 7 business days to get it back. They are willing to do this free of charge under the local warranty and apparently under AppleCare as well.
I don't know how well they will fulfil this promise, but they were very courteous and seemed to know what they were talking about. I just thought that there should be some online info out there to let people know how easy or difficult it is to get advanced Apple support in South Africa.
The above is all I know, but I am sure there are plenty of folks who have a lot of experience in this area, and may provide some additional info and advice.
