We need LTE spectrum now, says Vodacom

This falls to Icasa and the DoC... Oh dear.

This will seriously affect growth and cost of LTE in South Africa if ICASA does not pull its finger out its backside and do something about licensing spectrum.

Oh yes, and get rid of Dina Pule.

Give it to Cell C or Telkom Mobile

What logic is this? Do they need it?
Besides, Cell C network is at capacity, they need Capex to expand it something they don't have.
Vodacom has the network and capex to grow but need spectrum

Agreed!...it should actually be an asymmetrical allocation based on the ability for the network to grow a LTE network i.e. more spectrum to MTN and Vodacom and less for growing networks. This should be reviewed on a 5 year basis.
Otherwise we will end up with another issue of spectrum being allocated to company's that can't afford to use it...looking at you Sentech!

Telkom's got 60MHz of LTE bandwidth. You probably missed the memo but they're already rolling out a service.

GG_Alin is spot-on with how it should be allocated. What's the use in giving spectrum to someone who will never use it. A few examples are well known of companies who got chunks of spectrum but, to this day, never built a network. What use is that?
