iOS 7 announced with new-look interface for iPhone and iPad

Laughing hard at some of the comments on the sites:

Did Apple just TouchWiz iOS?
Want to see iOS8? Get a GS4.
Looks like Symbian.

I must say I was expecting more with iOS7. Seems like a few things have been taken from existing items, like the tabbed browsing (Chrome), multitasking (Android), control center (Android), blurry glass folders (Windows).

I assume there's more features to be announced which will only come out with the 5S. And support for iPhone 4+, is this the beginning of iOS fragmentation?

To be fair- these were features long-needed in iOS. And the refreshed design is rather lovely, even if it is not brand new. It exudes class.

That already existed upon launch of the iPhone 5- the app letterboxing being one of the results...

Agreed, iOS needed it no matter how small it was and at the end of the day it's up to Google and Microsoft to step up and to a lesser degree, the manufacturers.

I really think that apple did a great job with ios 7. For once its not the same old boring os. Control Center takes care of sbsettings, auto app updater no longer needed, IntelliScreenX no longer needed. Again, theres probably a lot more things they didn't mention in the keynote.

Just out of interest:
- Honestly, I thought that iOS doesn't need multitasking ... Or so we've heard over and over.
- Android users and devs yap on about HOLO, e.g. #HOLOYOLO ... So I hear that Apple's gone HOLO with round icons, wait until you hear about ROLO, #ROLOYOLO anyone?
- As most have said on other sites out there, iOS redesign is mainly a morph of WP7/8, WebOS, Android and a bit of BB10. Welcome to 2010/2011/2012 Apple.

I like the design shift, but there's some things that look unpolished, but obviously that can change when iOS7 drops in spring. I'll see when it comes, seeing as it might be released with iPhone 5S/6

Jailbreak...jailbreak...wherefore art thou...

What is clear is that the different mobile OS's are becoming so similar in design/style and functionality that end users will not have as many differences to contend with as was the case to date. From this it seems MS is already on the right track (iOS 7 looks like it could have been designed by the same studio) and Google is getting its styling right as well. Flat really stands out now ... LOL!

Will be very interesting to compare Android 5 release to iOS 7 release!

Other than the flatness in the design, I think that iOS is worlds away from Metro...

So true, iOS7 is almost 'fall in line' release, it basically brings it up to spec with existing OS's.
