Not the Modern UI tiles, no. But the overall philosophy is very similar. Many of the same ideas. Look for example at the Outlook.com web and app design. Very much the same. Lots of open white spaces. Very simple and clean. Simple icons. Emphasis on typography. It is all there in Windows. And more and more in Android.
 
Must admit - I like it!! Now should I download the developer build or not...? Hmmm...

Partly but it's more just a natural evolution of the mobile interface and Apple is now getting to the point of embracing that. Jony Ive could not have done otherwise though, this design is very strongly imprinted with his disposition. To me it's way ahead of Windows, and to a lesser extent Android.

To an extent, I agree with you. The minimalist approach is certainly similar.

But, when I saw that music player for the first time, I immediately thought "Sony"...
 
It's actually not that minimalist. If you look at it, it's highly designed, just not so heavily, woefully overtextured as it was previously. There aren't these vast tracts of white space or unoccupied room that WP/Android have. It uses some quite deep layers of texture that play over each other beautifully - the frosted glass effect is the clearest example of that; but it's built into all the animations, the way they move over each other like they're inhabiting a common space and retain definite considered physical properties.

Then they focused on colour, which comes across in an outstanding, classy way. The palette is vibrant and living; and icons are much more recognizable as a result. It all seems quite mature and thoughtful to me.

A well needed change ; seems like Apple have come from the 1990's through to 2005!

Seriously though - what is the issue with a widget? I'm not talking about every app having access to every iOS feature - but simply things like the calendar, To Do, birthday list and other small items? I don't use all the widgets on my Android - but it is great having a few that one doesn't need to actually enter the application

The issue is that they always claim that just about everything get the same version they differ from device to device, even if they are the same version. My IOS 6 is different to my colleagues ... which is different to the my neighbour .... and that's different to my friend.

We can each brag we have iOS 6 though, because the 'about' will tell us

I think the icons need to be toned down from a colour perspective. I don't know though, iOS7 seems to be bordering the crazy Chinise\Japanese colour craze. I'm sure you'll find a Pantech\Oppo\etc Android phone with a similar colour scheme. Maybe that's the reason, bright colours for the Asian market.

I battle a bit with the flat look. Typographically that is. Fonts look the same weight (light), same colour and same visual priority. Anything other than a heading kind of all blends together. Logically grouped areas lack the necessary ui background/boxes/borders to separate them from one another (or group them together). I find my eyes swimming, looking for anchors. It may be "modern", but I'm not a big fan. The new home screen icons look overly saturated. It's like someone waved their rainbow wand over everything. Maybe it's just the screenshots. The game center and control panel icons look like they were done in a hurry. Maybe it'll grow on me.

I'm glad they have that control centre with quick access ... could never understand the point of not having that?!
 
Hmmm anyone feel like its got a lot of Pastels in the new design? Must be just me.

Safari will also show what tabs are open on your other devices and features the just announced iCloud Keychain integration, meaning it would be sync your passwords and credit card info with your Mac. The Reading list and Shared links features of the desktop Safari are available here too.
