I recently started playing with Tasker and I love it. Here's how I'm using it at the moment:

Reads out my news and weather each morning at 7am then switches to my music app and plays a playlist. I need to figure out a way to route this audio to my surround sound in the bedroom but it doesn't look likely based on the digging I've done. EDIT: Air Audio works well for this.

Switches on Wi-Fi when I hit a certain set of cell towers near my house and welcomes me home when it connects to my home Wi-Fi. Only between certain times of day. Also opens yatse for media centre control.

Only switches on GPS for certain apps and switches it off when they close.

Checks my account balances every two hours during the day and announces that it its doing so. Can monitor rogue usage this way.

Shake to switch on torch.

Battery saving profiles defined and automated based on time of day, battery status and location.

If a failed phone security pin is entered from the lock screen, the following actions take place: force GPS on. Take pic with front and rear camera. Wait 20 seconds for GPS lock. Switch off GPS and send me a text msg with date, time, Google maps location, battery status, Wi-Fi details and cell tower location. Upon receipt of sms the phone announces a security breach.

Same thing happens if I send an sms to the phone with a certain phrase except it send to multiple numbers.

Plugging in headphones opens a list of audio apps to choose from.

Swiping across the face of the phone switches profiles.

Spoken battery full alerts to take off charge. Repeats every 10 min. Only during certain times of the day.

I still might try to integrate with auto remote and auto notifications at a later point but it gets quite complicated. I'd also like to start some home automation projects with it and perhaps use done nfc tags.

So what do you do with Tasker?

When I hit the cell tower near my favourite shops my shopping list opens and updates, but only at certain times of day.

man that is an elaborate setup . I used to have a Wifi timer on my ( RIP ) SE Xperia

For the sound stuff look into airfoil. You might need another device of some sort plugged into the amp though.

I have the amp connected to a Windows 8 machine...

Edit. Find the perfect app for this. Air studio. Requires root but then transmits all system audio to airplay enabled devices on your network...

Do you have a link to Air Studio?
I can only push music from the music player to my Marantz amp. Tune In Radio Pro only plays via my Philips bedside dock via bluetooth and I really want to be able to push the audio through my Marantz. Air Studio sounds like it can do this?

Sounds like it could be what you're looking for, although there are some bugs in the app, but it's still early days...my apologies, it's called air audio

Started playing around with Tasker few weeks ago and I love it.

When I plug in my headphones a menu pops up with options to launch my FM or podcast apps.

I also use it to silence my phone when I am in church or meetings according to my calendar entry. I also disable my keyguard when I am home or at work.

Even better, it can transmit from the microphone, so you can scare the bejeezuz out of people in other rooms of the house. Imagine the possibilities...:D

Actually hook it to a dedicated raspberry pi and you've got yourself two way voice communication throughout the house. Link it to tasker profiles, tasker say function and nfc tags and your house can start talking to you. Combine with home automation and you truly can build a true smart house. Use an old phone as a dedicated speaker for vox commando and every house can be controlled via voice in every room.

That app could be pretty damn cool...

Pretty elaborate, I use tasker to open the music app when I plug in a headphone and it also increases the volume.

I've also set it to max out the screen brightness when I open a GPS app (Easier to see in the daylight this way) and then lower brightness when exiting the app

Finally when it is disconnected from a wifi network tasker enables bluetooth for the car.

One annoyance I've recently encountered - Android 4.3 has increased security over 4.2.2, with the result that Tasker can no longer control GPS. There's a workaround (installing and configuring 'Secure Settings'), but I haven't had the time to look into that yet.

The same issue persisted on 4.1.2 which I'm on as well. Secure settings is a great add-on for Tasker and well worth it. Very simple to install and use, but make sure you follow the secure settings instructions for busy box properly...

My wifi is always on so:
When i am at home my wifi goes on, data goes of, brightness goes to minimum, Amy a brit voice (Ivona) tells me "welcome home", Auto Syns on, Wall paper change
When i leave home the data goes on, Auto Sync off just watsapp msgs gets trough, brightness turns to auto, wall paper change
When i get to an Alwayon Wifi hotspot, data turns off, all apps update (like at home but Amy keeps quite) brightness stay at auto
GPS only switch on for Maps and TomTom
At 19:00 to 21:00 Amy reminds me about my medication
When i open whatsapp. sms and Taparalk my phone goes into portrait (I type easier in portrait)
I realy love this app

No need to switch off data in android I've found. Wifi connection automatically disconnects cellular data connections...
