Best and worst ADSL ISPs, according to HelloPeter stats

Firstly - the obligatory comment on HelloPeter. Requiring businesses to make payments in exchange for the "right" to respond to public customer complaints (HelloPeter's business model) is decidedly similar to extortion. i.e. Holding a company's public image hostage.

Second - where is Openweb on the comparison? I never checked, but from screenshots someone else posted they seemed to dominate. Though I also vaguely recall that they specifically asked users to post.

Mweb isn't last!:wtf:
Although they only starting throttling in the last third of the year, I bet 80% of the complaints occured after that.

These "statistics" make hardly any sense at all, any sane person looking there can see Afrihost has the THIRD HIGHEST NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS, how does this translate to happy? Then again, hardly anything on Hellopeter translates to happy, it's occasionally useful for the consumer (as a "threat") and consistently scum-baggy for any provider of anything.

Telkom? Well seeing as they deal with the lines regardless of the ISP it would make sense that people would complain. I mean I had to complain to helkom over a line issue when my ISP is Mweb.

What a absolutely useless article. Why only list 7 ISP's? Are these the ones paying HP/MYBB to be displayed?

Regarding openweb, i also immediately wondered where they were because they are by far my no.1 isp of choice.
Have a wonder off to http://hellopeter.com/openweb/compliments-and-complaints ... oh look ..

Openweb is much smaller than Afrihost and most likely Web Africa in terms of subscriber numbers. They and Web Africa ask their users to report good service. they even link you to a page to post something.

Whilst I agree with you, Openweb seems to re sell everyone else's accounts. There should also be a differentiation between ISP DATA and ISP hosting etc. some ISP's dont do the whole package, and some just re sell others' packages...

Effectively, Web Africa, Openweb, Axxess and a few other ISP's shouldnt be called ISP's, they should be called ISR's (Internet service resellers) they are just middlemen which frees up alot of time to keep the customer Happy, which they seem to be doing right!

The 177 compliments were before they moved to MTN and the 408 complaints where after they moved to MTN.

Number of complaints should actually be used together with total number of customers. E.g. Telkom has many more subscribers than other ISPs, therefore they have the most complaints.

The results as they are can be a bit inaccurate as the sample sizes for some of the ISPs are a bit small.

I cant believe that Cybersmart came in 3rd??!!
Their customer service has to be the worst that I have ever had to deal with ... anything but smart!

Interesting to see that the majority of compliments to Openweb are one compliment wonders - must really love them.

The best way of doing this analysis is complaints-vs-customers per ISP. That percentage will give you a good idea.

Many people are happy but dont compliment.

HelloPeter’s latest statistics show that Afrihost has the highest compliments/complaints ratio among local ADSL ISPs, giving an indication that the company’s customers are relatively happy with the service they receive.

I wouldn't call it relatively happy with only a 30% ratio.

How many people look at Hellopeter stats before they buy at a shop or sign up with a service provider?

I have used HP to get some joy when I struggled with imcompetent call centers or stubborn service providers. In all the years I have posted only two compliments though, and they were for EXCEPTIONAL service.

Do you know how stats works? If they have the biggest customer base, they will have more complaints. But more compliments too. That's why the ratio is important.

I agree with this, also did they check the 5K odd complaints if they are only adsl or ISP related? Remember Telkom provides a host of services. I even complained on there because their pole in my yard decided to rot and fall over...not related to my ADSL at all which has been running for 2 years now without interruption and consistently between 8.5Mbit and 9.8Mbit. So maybe a little more thought should have gone into this.

True...and I think they should remove "stats" from the title as I don't think any real statistics were applied :p

To be fair, a LOT fewer people will actually go online to log a compliment in contrast to a complaint. I mean, there's absolutely NO incentives for a consumer to compliment a service provider.
