Phone Telkom (10210)

Choose the ADSL support (Option 1)

Be aware, if the technical assistant is out for a smoke brake or something the kitchen help answers the phone (pray that this does not happen because you will have to repeat the steps

When you talk to a technical assistant ask him/her to refresh your ADSL profile and reset your port

This should do I, if they complain for some reason just phone back, there are some helpful assistants that don’t mind helping people

This helped me when Telkom did the upgrade from 386 to 1meg and now from 1meg to 2meg

What is the easiest way to see what speed my line is capable of OR whether it has been upgrade?

Sometimes you need to tell them that you already checked your number on their site and it says you have been upgraded.

Go to the Telkom ADSL checker and enter your phone number. It will tell you what service you should be on.

If for example it shows you are on 2Mb, but you are only synching at 1Mb then follow the OP steps to get Telkom to change it.

I did this last night and followed the same procedure. You need to check that your router syncs at the new speed before ending the call otherwise you will have to phone back. After 3 attempts the call centre agent eventually got me to the higher speed. She was very helpful so I must have gotten one of the good ones.

What am I seeing here? It doesn't make sense - Max speed available is 1Mb, but My current speed is 2Mb? (I can only sync at 1Mb, close to exchange, good line etc)

This is what I was talking about in my previous post. Phone Telkom and tell them to reset your sync profile to 2Mb. Tell them it shows you are 2Mb on the website.

Does anyone know if this still works? I called Telkom and they said that I can't go above 2mbps?

I called a few weeks prior and they said my line could go up to 10mbps but now the story is different!

Are there some lines that can't be upgraded at all unless Telkom does it on their own?

It's weird because my parents live in a less affluent area than I do but their line can go up to 10mbps via the ADSL checker.
