My wife called me to say it gave an HDD corrupted error, but she dismissed the option to format. She now says it's telling her its unable to play recordings without a working hard drive.

Anybody in the know-how?

No secret menu.
Press MENU
Select Advanced Options
Enter 9949
Select PVR Clean-up
Select Delete all

or help and i will also take you to a format menu.

I don't have an explora, google gave me the answer.
Maybe consider trying it next time?

I believe this is wrong too, for the Explora. Google really coming through for you...

This too was from the DSTV forum.
I can't see how ppl with Explora's would give the wrong info?

I can. I see it every day. People Google things and post what they find for the truth :D

Your two posts are both for the normal HD PVR's. The Explora is running a complete new system and the front end looks completely different.

I'm open to the fact that I posted info that was not valid.
In fact, I'm almost certain I did.
:D

sorry

BEWARE. You will lose decoder settings, XtraView setup, UHF output, scheduled recordings etc etc.

MENU (DStv button) -> Use left/right arrows to select SETTINGS -> Down arrow to select SYSTEM SETTINGS -> Forward arrow, then down arrow to select RESET DECODER SETTINGS -> Press OK -> Down arrow to select RESET TO FACTORY DEFAULTS AND FORMAT HARD DRIVE -> Select FORMAT THE DECODER -> Press OK
