Atlas robot unveiled by Pentagon scientists

Damn...

Don't make the Terminator movies prophetic.. that would just not be cool...

Japanese version will be female and under 18 y/o. Somehow, its flimsy arms will still pummel the Western beast into the ground. Because it will know martial arts and wear a seifuku. But at the end of the day it can be pacified by feeding it crepes.

I thought it was some sophisticated Traffic Light... Bloody South African terminology!

:D

once it gets to this stage, its ready to go killin.... just strap a .45 on its arm, and it can go ape.
other (wheeled) DARPA robots that have machine guns fixed have shown they can aim well, keep steady, and with its good target tracking, won't waste as many bullets to mow down multiple terrs.
i guess its unlikely that the robot's main aim is humanitarian... somewhere in the back must be special ops in progress... after all, military applications are DARPA's main reason for being, no?
but, like many other inventions, even military aimed applications will find their way to do good as well.

Humanitarian my ass... that's how they justify it now.
Next, it'll need to be armed to blast away rubble.

yup, depending on which side of the political spectrum you find yourself on, may be a green or red dot on the radar :-)
of course, while the mechanical abilities are there already... its probly still some time away before a robot will have feelings interfere with its orders.
"is that an innocent child or old woman in the way of the bullet's trajectory, or just a short ugly baddy?"

In a school dress? Are tentacles optional?

Yeah that whole reference to "terminator" is rather misleading. That robot looks nothing like this:

thats the consumer (humanitarian) version.... in the R&D workspace they're working on the look :)
if it looks too much like the T model now, there may be too much negativity to get proper funding ...
