Haai all,

My son needs a tablet for grade 1!!! :wtf: The budget is tight and it needs to be a tablet running Android, I would like Kit-kat but I see Jelly bean is the latest that the budget tablets support.

My question; what is the best, sub R 1`000 tablet for a grade 1? (It's not like they will do video editing on it)
(I can maybe go up to R 1`500)
Pro-line, Prestigio, etc?

Fanx,
TX

No joke! His pre-primary school had a shared tablet for grade R.

I'm a developer and my only device, BB 9360, is 3 years old... o.O

same prob here, esquire have the T10 tablet sub 1k i believe, bought one last year but the little one actually prefers the ipad :(
goodluck, let us know what you end up getting. i need to get another one now as well

7 yr old does not need a tablet.

uhm they start from them off from 3yr olds now :p no jokes! they learn how to "paint" and "draw" on tabs these days from very early on.

I'd ask to see the curriculum that warrants that requirement for a tablet in Gr.1, sounds like bad teachers fobbing off responsibility.

I went though all the arguments but this is the way of the future.
My oldest son had to get an iPad for grade 6, two years ago. (The school dictated Apple only product)

And you think this is right??
What happened to kids finger painting and getting their fingers dirty from charcoal drawings?
I think it is a very bad idea.

Same as saying kids shouldn't play in dirt.

im not against it, its a very small part of their day, they still do the normal painting and playing outside etc the tablet is just part of the tech class. its just basically getting them used to tech from an early age

This is not what is right or wrong (I make my kids climb trees and play in the mud - not M.U.D. :P ) But it is coming, I heard Gauteng is going to roll out tablets to public schools?

LoL on the cow sound toy! The Polaroid does run Android but it on the expensive side

My 6 year old walks into the Samsung store and try to tap and gesture the TVs. He even said to the clark that it should be a touch screen... It is the way our children will grow up.

:D

I hear what you're saying.
Just be sure to limit your child's usage.
I'm battling with my 14yr old due to being preoccupied with his phone.

Resistance is futile!

Yes, we a parents need to manage this as well (time spend with electronic stimulation) especially for ADD children.

But on the plus side, we now have a "Device" punishment, as in, give over the "Device" you little.... :D

Monitoring your childs diet for ADD, ADHD is far more important than their use of a device.

Again, everything in moderation. Stopping a child from having access to tech is a death wish in this day and age.
