Apple blocks access to users’ accounts

True, but then Apple aren't alone in being a target of the NSA. I think the point is that they're not working with anyone to provide access. If the NSA manage access then it's something that they've engineered on their own.

I always wonder though whether I'm better off with the NSA snooping or not. My life's pretty boring so I really couldn't care what they read about it - good luck to them. But is it a bad thing if they're able to snoop on actual criminals/terrorists? I guess some would agree and others not, such is life.

I agree with you it's goo when they focus on criminals. But how do they come to the conclusion that you are a criminal and then focus on you? My guess is that in the initial stages they would have to do some kind of mass surveillance which would include innocent people like you and I. That is a bit uncomfortable knowing that your private conversations, maybe the ones between you and your spouse, are sitting on some agency's server waiting for someone to mine through. Very difficult to come up with a balance there

Completely agree. Personally I prefer extra safety over extra privacy but that's still a compromise and everyone's going to have a varying opinion of where the line's drawn. Like you said, difficult to come up with a balance. And probably impossible to please everyone.

Good move. Industry get enough about increasing pressure from state agencies. Quite desperate reversal from giving easy instant access of Oscar Pretorius private data to the foreign (non-US) state agency.

I don't think Apple can reveal the exact level of co-operation they have with the US government, there may be non disclosure orders. If they do, their CEOs can go to Federal prison.
